Dangerstat - would love to - tend to jump around fairly erratically. as robot robot said, Illustrator is the juggernaut for this sort of thing, photoshop gives a little more flexibility for sit testing (ie what does it look like in x,y,z location). Also use a variety of other cool apps which each have their own particular strengths (eg Xara Xtreme Pro is very much worth a look - knocks chunks off illustrator for freehand design). But most of all the majority is done off screen - sketches, brainstorming business drivers and creative thoughts.

For the tech stuff, highly, highly recommend a wacom tablet...

TriedandTested - Agree, actually think it's the kerning would benefit from a tiny, tiny tweak - actually changed a later version, but don't want to keep submitting final, final entries etc.

int -As you're a bristolian too, I'll take your damning! Spent many a year in Redland and up at Clifton! ;)

Love this. However, the font in the 'OcUK' versions of the logo doesn't quite sit right. Not sure what it is so can't really suggest a 'fix' - perhaps you could play with it.

I think the top logo is spot on - certainly my favourite. Well done.

I think the OcUK needs a lower-case 'c' or just the whole 'OCUK' making smaller.

Here's my entry, tell me what you think :)

Katie good job but I really don't like so much your logo (there is no emotion) but that's my opinion. I see that many users love your one (and that is the most important for OCUK). Congrats and enjoy your new GTX

Software most probably used, which i used aswell.

Adobe Illustrator, look up some tutorials it all paths and shapes so it takes a while to get into.

Thanks for the relies, I have a bitter hatred of Adobe products for the outrageous pricing policies - is there any GNU software that is remotely as good as illustrator

Naster - fair shout, inevitable really as you simplify designs you lose emotion/fashion/trends etc. Have tried very hard to design a timeless brand (guess just like most brands are a bit 'simple' or 'soulless' - think of nike, adidas, microsoft, ibm etc etc... Very plain and dull-seeming, but the logo is focused around a particular purpose of name embedding and brand recognition.

The emotion comes from the users/market/company themselves (eg Luxology are a great example if you know them) or by then modifying the brand to suit the market (extreme example think Google - very simple brand, but they regularly change their homepage logo to suit!)

Likewise Nike have moved from a name-enforcing strategy in recent years once they felt everyone in the world knew them, and moved towards just 'the tick'.)

Again, just my views on this anyway - there are definitely companies that break this standard mould (eg McDonalds, creatives etc etc)

Competition's far from over anyway!

dangerstat - most certainly (Xara Xtreme is very, very cost effective in comparison), but if you can wait about 9 months or so the market's starting to massively open up again with all the web-based software apps really taking off (eg http://aviary.com/home). Some really competent apps coming out, big names behind them - but not 'quite' productionisable yet...

ok, trying to kill two birds - have sketched a forum version as Skippi asked and have designed as a seasonal variation (halloween) to demonstrate the potential ways to tailor as mentioned to Naster - keeping the brand sharp and doing its job while livening up around it...

Have also kept it as same theme as present (would again suggest maybe a reskin of the forums to fresh things - white's nice, but this shows the art of the possible right now)
