Desinger Handbag for the Mrs

There are 'lesser' designer brands that would probably fit your budget. They are a huge leap up in quality from the cheap or everyday high street handbags that the likes of Top Shop sell. I think Radley are one. They are still really good quality from what I've seen - good enough to last a long time if looked after. It depends what kind of label your partner is after.

There are loads of nice handbags for £180, not necesarily designer though. Check out what places like All Saints, Ted Baker, Diesel etc. have, style will depend on taste of course.

Some people think spending £2k+ on a PC isn't a rational thing to do but many people on here do exactly that...

But the £2k+ PC performs vastly better than a £500 PC.

A £2k+ handbag is still a simple handbag, and does nothing more than a £50 handbag.

your surprised? have you ever had a girlfriend before? when it comes to handbags and shoes, rationality goes out the window

I'm no expert on women, that's for sure. I was just curious if it's common for women to be into (super) expensive handbags or if it's only a few of them ;)

The other chap asked about spending 2k on a computer... I think that's pretty irrational too, btw - but there is one big difference. The cost of manufacture for that 2k computer will probably be > 25% of its cost.

The cost of manufacturing that £1000 handbag is probably £10.

Same as good suit - you get better quality materials and stitching.

My wife has a bit of a bag fetish. I don't mind indulging it because I'm more than capeable of spending much more on my hobbies! In fact a £2k handbag will be worth more in 3 years than a £2k PC (I wouldn't ever admit that to her obviously!)

Not true. The more expensive handbag provides many benefits to those that covet its riches: better build quality, greater longevity, far better retention of value, the facilitation of smooth insertion into certain social circles, the advertisement of both wealth and the knowledge of fashion. The list is long if you've got lady-lumps.

better build quality, greater longevity, - That's like saying you should spend a stupid amount more for an MSI board because it uses their Military Class components.

the facilitation of smooth insertion into certain social circles, the advertisement of both wealth and the knowledge of fashion. - Buying something that's price is so over inflated it's unbelievable just to fit in is retarded.

Perhaps we simply need another good war to sort us out :p

To be frank, purchasing a handbag for £1000 is tantamount to making a £1000 donation to the fashion industry. A bit like the WWF will send you a cuddly toy if you donate, the fashion industry will give you a handbag. But only if the donation is large enough :p

Better stitching and materials? For real? Nah I think Edrof has it right. It's about displaying your wealth. Or in this case, displaying how much disposable money you have by literally disposing of £1000 of it, on nothing :p

Check out Ted Baker, some really nice bags at 'reasonable' prices. I was gonna get my Mrs one for her b'day but ended up getting her a Ted Baker purse and some knee high boots, which benefit me more since I can make her wear them with certain outfits ;)

(From a person with lady lumps)

Try the outlet villages, the one near me has a Mulberry store and has a nice Bayswater bag for £450 ish.

It also has a Radley where the bags range from (in sale) £70-£200, out of sale add 40% roughly.

A handbag is a very very personal thing, her sister may have similar taste, but not the same taste... (You cant really go far wrong with Mulberry though), you might be better following what the other have said. In that giving her a budget and letting her pick :)

No one said you should do anything, some people CHOOSE to spend more if they feel value in paying for higher quality materials.

People buy PCs, houses, cars, TVs, phones, watches etc to display wealth or fit in with certain circles.

I'm trying not to be condescending or condemnatory, because I'm nobody, and certainly not a judge of humanity.

But I can't help feel sad. Sad that the human race feels the need to buy expensive containers to feel good about themselves. Sad that other people would judge you over how expensive your container was.

Just generally sad that this is what we value in life.

2K PC might be better at some things but won't offer any value over a £500 pc for checking facebook and reading emails. As someone else said, you'd probably get more back on a 2 grand handbag than a 2 grand pc after a year's use!

Yeah I know, we should all live in mud huts and cycle to our place of work where we make baskets made out of straw.

Do you own any branded clothing?

Just cause people do it doesn't make it any less retarded.

Hence why people (Who know what they're doing) don't spend 2k on a PC for only checking Facebook and emails.

The only time you should care about what you get back for selling it is something that will appreciate like a rare NES game (Some of these have been going up rapidly lately) or shares in a business, not something that's likely to lose value no matter how small the drop.
