*** Desk and Room Gallery***

Finally got a DVI > HDMI cable so i've had a rearrange.

Took me two hours to move everything with my room being so damn small.

Looks weird on the picture but i couldn't get any further back because my chair is currently pressed against my back wall.

42" tv is about 10ft away from my desk with my 19" on the desk to the left.

All i need to do now is figure out how to get the image to stretch across the whole of my tv screen rather than sitting in a black frame, and make the picture clearer somehow =/

Just moved in to my new penthouse apartment (I love saying that... lol) & here's my bedroom w/ computer... excuse the random ethernet cable & bed on floor... still have to get homeplugs & new bed frame:

(clicky for bigger)

Looky looky! No cables under the computer desk! (Grrrr... darn speaker cabling... need to get some more :-(

Here's a quick snap of the living area... still quite a bit to be done to it... only just moved in... will take better snaps when it's all sorted :)

Don't bully me if this is a stupid question, but I noticed that some people have said they've connected cathode lights behind their desks. How have you done this? Have you guys bought seperate cheapy power supplies and run them off those?

It's so cool I want to know how you guys did it!?! :)

very nice pad there crinkleshoes! I'm jealous! What's the specs of your rig?

Thanks, I'm loving the place.

It's nothing special compared to current standards... stopped spending money on my computer when I got my gearbox kart & practically stopped gaming apart from a bit of L4D... but the specs are:

Q6600 @ 3.6GHz (24/7) w/ Noctua cooler
8GB OCZ Reaper 1066MHz
8800GT w/ Accelero S1
DFI X48 board
Coolermaster HAF932 (model #?)
Random 500GB HDD (8.5TB fileserver in the other room)
Corsair 750W
DVDRW

Monitor's a Hyundai W240D & the speakers and amp are both cambridge audio

A big DIY store with orange lettering (hope that's not breaking any rules, if so - please let me know & I will remove) sell 3 or 4 different coloured cathodes quite cheap (I think they're about 10 quid each) and they're powered directly off the mains. They're a bit bigger than your average computer cathodes (45-60cm I believe)... that would be the easiest, quietest and cheapest way for you to do it :)

I'm thinking of getting a blue one to go behind my Kuro & possibly one behind my computer desk.

I used to wonder how it was done too... then I discovered them about 2 weeks ago when looking for lamp shades lol!

Yeah it does seem like a stupid question to ask, but if this certain DIY chain does them, then that saves a lot of hastle in trying to hot wire a PSU. God knows if that's even possible.

Liking the choice on your TV by the way. I just recently got the 32" version and it's amazing! What size is yours? (forgive the pun ;))
May I also suggest that Pioneer use black and white for their Kuro range, so a black and a seperate white may look better behind your Kuro.

paddy your sig is too big geeza, just a warning before a don collars you for it :)

You can also get PC cathodes and run a stray molex through the watercooling pipe holes outside the case, easily done :D

I'll pick up a mains one though soon as I have changed some stuff around on the desk and would like some red/blue lighting .

I had to try ;) I've just reduced it to 2. Hope that's ok.

Good point. Although that may be a pain in the schnitzel when you want to move your case and forget that it's technically attached to your desk ;)

I think I'll either pick up red/blue lights like you as that's what I've currently got in my case, or pure green to signify nVidia and to have a little more variety. And I love green! :D

I have a desk arm so my 24" looks like it's floating out at you so a CC stuck to the back of the screen would look amazing methinks!

Will post a pic when done :p

Not a silly question imo... up until 2 weeks ago & I would probably have thought of going down a similar route.

BTW... it's quite easy to hot-wire a psu - just two wires in the right place on the main motherboard 24 pin connector & you can form your own switch very easily (same principle as something you generally have to do when setting up a water cooling system... you have to get the pump going to help remove air). But the reasons I wouldn't want to do it are:

-- Excess cables & an ugly grey box where you don't want it to be
-- Cheapy PSUs make a hell of a racket... which would be very annoying when I've gone to quite some lengths to make my HTPC etc silent.

lol... it's bigger than yours :D (couldn't resist).

They make a 32" Kuro? Is that one of the new TFT Kuros? Haven't seen them in the flesh yet.

Mine is a 50" 8th generation plasma.

What do you mean by black and seperate white? As in having a blacklight (uv) and white cathode behind the TV?

If so, I think a white cathode will look horrific with the cream walls :p Depends how bright it is though, if it was quite dim... kind of at ambient levels... then that would be quite good :)

One thing I am tempted to do though... I've already invested in a cheapy home automation system (everything is plugged in through wall-socket-adapters & am about to install new lightswitches so that everything in the apartment works off a single remote control)... would be awesome to have 3/4 different colour cathodes behind the TV & be able to switch between them with the remote. You've given me ideas now! haha

EDIT: Just saw your sig & yeah, it is the LCD version you have :)

True... but that has a couple of issues assosiated with it which are bypassed by mains-powered... depending on your setup, it would possibly be hard to remove the molex wire from view & if/when you need to move your computer system, it could cause problems.

You can get one of those stands, it will only cost you £100, though you'd have a router bundled with that :D

As for the cables... you got me!

pc_TFT_floating_not.jpg

Just saw this - any chance you can point me in the right direction to get one of those, or is it a competitor? :-(

It's exactly what I've been looking for, for a while.

It's a competitor where I got mine but if you Google Shopping search it you'll find it very quickly :p

Model: Ergotron MX, they also do an LX but that was not ballsy enough to keep my screen up!

Legend, thanks - exactly the type of arm I've been after... there are a lot of other things floating around which look terrible!

Will get one of those when I have some spare cash :)

GIT!! Mine's the latest 9th generation Kuro though, and it's a great honour as Pioneer are withdrawing from the TV market :( Why do the good ones go and the bad ones stay *cough* Samsung *cough*

Considering mine's a 32" full 1080p, the picture is technically clearer than larger plasmas as it's on a smaller area. Am I right in saying this ??

Well I swear I've seen completely black cathode lights before. Either on OC or another computer related site.

Yeah I guess you're right that a white cathode would look silly because of your walls. I looked at the pics you posted, and I suggested that lol

Your pad really is going to turn out to be a chick magnet when it's finished. Or a druggy flat like in Trainspotting. Either way, it'll look awesome ;)

Oh a note to OC and everyone. Sorry to have chavved up the forum with thoughts of cathode lighting like this :D
