*** Desk and Room Gallery***

Ikea, got a desk lamp for £5 which has tilt, swivel, up down, head movement, the werkz. Can't remember it's name though.

And if I find it's too bright, I simply aim it's head elsewhere and carry on.

I got a cheap lamp from BHS. Cost £5, touch, and has a really nice gentle light to it.

A new addition to the family, a Dell U2713HM. Going to keep the old LG IPS231 for tinternet searches while gaming :)

Me and the girlfriend have moved to my parents so we can save for a deposit on our first house, managed to cram everything in our room. (Sorry phone pics)

The microservers on my desk one is a N40L used as a HTPC running XBMC. The other is a N54L used to back everything up (over 16TB in the systems)

Interesting, Ash! Love your portrait mode for reading. Though, I hope that radiator doesn't get too warm for the girlfriends, from reading about hot radiators and screens.

So, I'm trying to figure out how best to get as many cables off the carpet as possible to make things look neater. I was planning on buying the IKEA Signum cable trunking but I'm not sure how I am going to deal with some of the other things, mainly getting the extension off the carpet (Not sure if it'll fit into the Signum thing and how I'd go about it?)

Here's an album to show what I mean

This is the extension I have. Any advice or product recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Mackem, I have that trunking and I think it's pretty good. It's quite wide so I think it'd fit that power strip but it'd fit better if the base is removable. I have one power strip in the trunking and one strapped to the bottom of it with cable ties. I've also got a router strapped to the bottom of it at the other end. With your one you'd want it sitting in it though so you could utilise both sides of sockets.

If you want to measure your power strip length, width and depth I can measure if I think it'd fit in the trunking for you.

I have that extension and as the base is removable, you can definitely get it into the trunk.
The wire type things arent flush with the table bottom so there is more room than there looks.
Ive seen people use the trunking system with much thicker extension leads.

Better cooling, easier access to i/o ports, less dust sucked up from carpet, showing off the custom water loop and or shiny new gfx cards, amongst others.
Mine is in a modified cabinet (Ikea Alex) under my desk, so it avoids the carpet issues and also reduces noisenoisel

Is there a reason people choose to put their case on the desk rather than under it?

Scientifically no. If you clean your house it shouldn't get dusty no matter where it is. Airflow doesn't change that much in my house between the floor and waste height. Really depends on your desk I suppose.

Some people like looking at them I suppose I'd rather more space on my desk but it depends on your layout.

Great Thread :D
Here my setup, like it very much. If I could improve things though it would be cable management :D

I would run the speaker cables inwards behind the TV, then drop them all neatly down the centre instead of having them dangle off to the side and having the side speakers hanging straight down. Maybe you lack the cable length, but that would look nicer. Then get a small white trunk to cover them in and hold them against the wall.

There could be a few pascals difference in pressure due to the floor being cooler than the air above, therefore allowing the fans to create a higher airflow. [All of this being insignificant, making zero difference to anything :p]

If I had a nice watercooling setup, I would want to show it off though ;)
