Destiny 2

Yes I’ve done that recently when the expansions were on offer. Just played through each one and enjoyed myself a lot. Some of the older content is vaulted and no longer playable so you might want to have a read up on what’s currently there.

This (vaulting) is part of the thing i don't understand. Do these bits have zero impact on other parts of the game, in regards to starting of at level/light zero then just working your way through? My guess is that all content is deleted on chronological basis, does that sound right?

Have you been playing solo? How much interaction from other players do you have to deal with? I liked D1 strikes if there wasn't someone just blasting through the level leaving me behind to do not much.

Yeah it gets deleted chronologically. You will go through some starting missions with each character to get you into the game with levels gear and weapons etc then you can just do whatever. I played all of it solo some of the mission strikes will put you with randoms but as some of that content is old I wasn’t matched with anyone so I solod them on my own. You are generally over levelled for some of the older stuff so it isn’t too bad. Some great sp content there if you just want to play some Destiny. All of the available expansions are good but the witch queen is particularly good. Don’t get me wrong it’s confusing as hell but I used a guide to help me go through each expansion after I bought them. Just googled how do i start this etc and it’s all there.

I’ve started playing Destiny 2 again.

I haven’t played since Beyond Light, I think, which would have been 2020!

I feel like a lot has changed, but at the same time it’s much of the same.

Weapons I used to use (Uriels Gift, as an example) now don’t seem to be that great.

Any pointers on where to start, having bought the light and darkness collection?

What's it like these days?
I played it for a very long time, but most of my gaming friends gave up, so I started doing far more solo. A few years back they changed the level of difficulty which made it long and tedious to do many of the things I used to do solo, so I gave the game up. My weekly to-do list went from full to almost empty. In particular the Lost Sectors, the enemies were just bullet sponges.

I played one of the episodes (post final shape seasons) still broken, still garbage overpriced microtransactions, still the same toxic community. The only difference is that they've had to lay off 2/3rds of their staff at this point because they've alianted so much of an audience that was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that they're barely keeping the lights on.

These days apparently it's difficult to say the least to get a raid going, nightfalls are dead, and there's no satisfying gameplay loop. All of this makes sense given that at the time of writing this, they're on 6k concurrent users on steam, and had around 23k users on sony a few weeks ago.

I was never really a raid kinda person, so I can’t comment from that perspective.

It seems super quiet though. Hardly anybody online.

It seems like there’s a LOT to think about, and it isn’t overly clear how to get back into everything. Enjoying the worlds again though.

It's a shame. I used to love the game and would still like to play it as it was two years ago.

When they made it more difficult what they did was the cheap option. Rather than raising the ceiling they raised the floor. They could have just added a new level of difficulty but chose instead to alter then ones they had.

They helped the team players, giving them a higher level of challenge, but screwed the solo players by making it crazy tedious.

I wish they would put it back the way it was. I would play it again.

In what way did they make it harder? In the game, I’ve seen references to playing legacy content, which is harder than newer content apparently.

It was several years ago.

Apparently it was largely driven by Youtubers complaining that the game was too easy.

But in real terms what they did was increase the bullet-sponge-ness of the bad guys.

For me, I was settled in to a rotation of weekly activities, most of which were just solo farming. The kind of thing you don't want to be tedious. But turning the bad guys in to bullet sponges pushed those activities more towards team activities rather than solo, so it just broke the routine I was used to.

As someone at the time said, they raised the floor not the ceiling and that was a really stupid way to implement the changes.
