I'm taking my life into my own hands with those one eh lads ;)

Right. Plenty of free time coming up, so it's time for the second 'detailing/polishing/washing/waxing/fettling/whatever you want to call it' session of the year.

I've already got plenty of products/waxes/items/purchased consumables but I am missing out on drying towels, applicator pads, and so on.

What do you guys use? I've got a Megs wash mit which is fine but what I'd really like a recommendation on is which selection of applicators, polishing clothes and drying towels is best.

Lets set of a budget of £20-25ish to buy as much as possible. I'd want plenty of pads etc.

Also want something to allow the easy application of products/waxes/items/purchased consumables to alloy wheels.

So... spec me some junk.

Is it worth getting stuff for the interior as well?

EDIT: Sorry that was silly, my stuff adds up to about £45

Clean and shiny, and elite car care are good places to start.

Also Ebay, i use sonus drying/polishing and buffing stuff, i bought a pack of all of them from Ebay for £25 or so, i use lots of the cheap microfibres from poundland/tesco, wheels, dash and other odds and sods.

I don't appreciate all the laughter guys

The scouring pad is excellent for removing scratches and swirls from paintwork, its used by professionals everywhere. I can't be held responsible if it removes all the paint as well though.

The towel can also double up as a fashionable beach towel for fox in the summer.

The supersoaker is known so well for being a high precision, professional squirting device, and would be perfect for the awkward shape of alloy wheels.

I had a megs water magnet drying towel and it was terrible, just bought a sonus der wonder towel and it is in a different league.

Do not buy the megs, waste of money.

Personally I place on the panel dab it then pull

Hi there

I use same method. :)

Helps prevent adding swirls to paintwork and leaves an unmarked finish. Making drying the car very easy. :)

Sonus Der Wonder are fabulous, can dry a car just about with one of them, but 2 in the pack so can use them both for a nice super dry finish. Really worth the price, will only need to buy them once. so might aswell go for the best.

I tend to just use megs for all cleaning products, but looks like the Sonus Der Wonder is worth trying.

so whats the process for a proper clean then

rinse
wash (using 2 bucket method obviously)
claybar

what next ? ive seen so many polishes/buffs/sprays/waxes ive no idea what works. All i want is to make my car shiney !

Sorry to hijack thread. But over than a bucket of soapy water. i've never cleaned any of my cras properly. However I want to keep the mitsi a little better.

drying towel
polish
some sort of cloth to apply/buff polish
window cleaner
rain x type stuff for windows
plastic cleaner for interior plastic or soapy water?

Detail I performed when I got the car:

Wash (2 bucket method) with NXT Wash.
Autoglym super resin polish
Collonite 915 wax
Both applied / buffed with autoglym perfect polish clothes
Autoglym instant tyre shine (sprayed onto clothe and rubbed on tyres)
Autoglym Alloy cleaner
Then the usual windows / trims / interior.

Took me nearly 6 hours even though it doesn't look like much.

Eurow waffle towels for the main drying. Lay and pat most areas and maybe some rubbing if there are slight water marks.
