Deus Ex HR vs deus ex

The second Game (Invisible war) was complete and utter **** in terms of:

a. Gameplay - was very slow and sluggish even with mouse sensitivity set to full and the augments did little or nothing to improve matters and the AI was a joke and hardly posed a challenge even on the higher difficulties.

b. Storyline - Super powerful information controlling AI merges with nano-aug and suddenly cannot control the information flow and crashes plunging the world into collapse... then to repair instead of just modifying the original nano augs tech they have to grow a completely new one how efficiant! x 2

c. Length not even 1/8th the length of the original all side q's included.

It should never have been released and never deserved to be counted as part of the Deus Ex series IMHO. HR on the otherhand was more true to the original The story was fantastic the gameplay just as good the only thing that this lacked over the original is the length I mean it was by far longer than DE: IW but still only about 1/3 the length of the original.

Well you sound like you really hated the 2nd one, you must be a big fan of deus ex games which is why, I'm more of a half life/deadspace/rogue spear/mafia 2 type of guy, I didnt really like games like assasins creed or gears of war for example.

But the 2nd deus ex I really loved.

The best games I've played over last few years are:
Mafia 2
Bad Company 2
F1 2010
Dead Space 1 & 2
Splinter Cell Conviction
God of War 3
Crysis 2
Homefront
Shift 2
L4D 1 & 2

These are games that I've either completed or am still playing now, I've tried just about every other game that's come out on all consoles and PC but most I get bored of.

As for this new Deus Ex, I been trying to play it through again today, I must be almost 10 hours in, and I've decided to delete and uninstall because I just cant get into it, it just doesnt grab me.

#1 KoToR
#2 Deus Ex
#3 Mass Effect (Series)
#4 System Shock II
#5 Half-Life (Series)
#6 Deus Ex HR

Again just SP... Counter Strike 1.6 is prob my #1 for MP! :)

You know regarding your counter strike comment, I always wonder howcome some people stopped at 1.6...because I played cs from the beggining and after 1.6 they released cz, do you remember? And cz to me, at the time, was exactly same as normal cs but the maps had different textures and looked slightly better, so me and my friends continued to play cs:cz which I consider to be exactly the same as 1.6, but then when source came out I couldnt stand it because even though it looked a million times better I didnt like the sound engine as I have to be able to hear foot steps directly and clearly so I can out smart people who run around like newbies and not only that but the registry didnt feel right with the guns, or maybe thats the wrong word, but it just didnt feel like when I moved or shot the weapons, and I could always own servers in CS but not on source so always stuck to cs, and I still play it every now and again...I went on a server other day and my score was something like 30 kills 5 deaths, and I was seriously playing amazing like the old days, best game I've had in years, and it was 20 people on server too so was 10v10...was so happy at the time!! lol

Actually though even though I've said I thought that 1.6 and cz was exactly the same game other then textures, when I tried to play 1.6 the other week it did feel slightly different to cz, the aim and the way the gun felt, cant explain it, just didnt feel right though, I guess its whichever you prefer but I just saw cz as like a patch on 1.6 so they should just of called it 1.7 or something lol.

I have completed HR 2 times now. Great game. But found it to be too short. They needed another hub I think, and maybe one or two smaller locations. Also it felt like they needed more time with it, some of the story felt a bit rushed. Still, well worth the pre-order for me. Not disappointing one bit.

Overall I think Deus Ex is still a better game though. This is due to a few factors (NOT NOSTALGIA). HR is very close though. Definitely better than Invisible Wars which I liked more than others.

I do hope they spend a few years and make a sequel to HR. I think it can be done really well. Everything is in place for them now. In two years they should be able to make a longer and better game than HR I think.

Looking forward to DLC. Only game I will be playing now along with FIFA 12 :)

The fact you give DX1 10/10 makes me feel it has everything to do with nostalgia ;)

Why? I am not one of those "only perfect, flawless game that will never exist can get 10" people.

If game provides experience I will never forget, I will give it 10, flaws be damned. So far there has been...5 or 6 games like that in over 15 years of gaming for me. (Fallout, Deus Ex, Vampire Bloodlines, Hitman Blood Money, Witcher 2, Mafia 1)

I am actually replaying Deus Ex right now (after I finished HR) with New Vision, DX10 renderer and few other mods and it is just as brilliant as ever.

Ungh they are fairly different games, the thing is though I completed DX1 maybe 6 times, I doubt I'd do the same with DX3. A mix of the two games would be amazing, the engine from 3 with the plot/story from 1 :o How modable is the new engine?

Biomod is a very good mod if you want to play through Deus Ex now, however if you find that it changes too much then Shifter might be better(Biomod includes shifter)

Biomod makes great changes to the Aug system imo, most augs only use energy when you are actually using them as opposed to when you turn them on, for example you can keep silent running on all of the time and it doesn't use energy, but others still use energy when turned on, such as the spy drone/cloak etc. And bio suits only use energy when they are actually being used also(same with ballistic armour)

It also adds a grapple so you can climb better and adds some different unique weapons to the game

New Vision with Kentie's renderer is great for visuals as well.
Off-topic:
Have you managed to get the visual packs working?

Installed in this order:
DX
DX 12f patch
Kenties Launcher
Kenties Renderer
UX Fix
New Vision
New Vision Hotfix
HDCP

Resolution is nice and high, but even after the ini modifications each mod asks for, it wont run anything like the new textures or the new GUI. :(

##EDIT##
Managed to fix the GUI problem. Now its just the textures...ideas?

I have it on Steam so didn't have to patch it. Otherwise iirc i placed the new vision files into the Deus Ex folder and changed the ini as instructed, then Kenties renderer(i believe it is included with New Vision) and finally Kenties Launcher. The only thing i have had problems getting to work is a higher resolution. 1280x800 appears to work, but doesn't quite look right tbh.

I haven't tried any other visual mods.

Thanks. :)

Got the New Vision Pack working, but the HDTP one wont play nice. :(

From what i have read of the documentation, HDTP doesn't make much difference. I just installed it through the .exe and a message popped up basically saying you will not notice any difference!

Maybe it needs a patch or something, i only downloaded the original, it might have been improved since. I'm not sure if it is working or not based on that though:confused:

EDIT- mod appears to be dead based on some of the comments on moddb and the fact that it hasn't been updated in years. Shame as it was started and would be welcome, maybe soeone will pick it up.

HDTP beta was released 4 years ago or so, but they are still working on it...

and according to their posts on offtopic productions forums, they are "in the home stretch", so I am hoping for release this year..

Well that is good news. Moddb hasn't been updated in a while. Do you have a link for where you get the info from? as i would like to follow it:)

It's hard to compare the two, as much as I love the original it did have its flaws, like the last level being pants and the performance on hardware at the time being choppy.

I think the real test will be in 10 years time will I be reminiscing by playing Deus Ex again or HR?

Flatlander Woman

How did you know?

*Explodes*

Comparing the two games is like comparing "A New Hope" with "The Phantom Menace"

Yes, the effects are better but the original just feels so much better.

I think HR could easily have been better than DX, had it not ended so soon. There was definitely another level or two of conspiracy that needed to be uncovered.

The writing was remarkably good. It was one of the areas I expected HR to fall flat. Surely nobody can attempt to match the swagger of JC, but AJ came exceedingly close.

I think the boss fights were fine. I beat them all fairly easily on the hardest setting without resorting to typhoon (which is only 2 points anyway - I'm sure you can spare this even if you're a stealther). There are not really a whole lot of augs that will help you. Of all of them, the speed aug is probably the most helpful. The most important thing is having a decent weapon handy. No reason not to, with the massive inv.
