Deus Ex HR vs deus ex

TBH I feel are people are liking the first one more because they practically wanted a clone of the original and aren't happy that it isn't almost exactly the same.

DX was great for it's time, but to say it's better than the new game because it was ahead of/better than other games also released 11 years ago is just nonsense.

I don't think some people are saying that though - they are saying that Deus Ex is a better game full stop irrespective of when it was released.

I can't comment on this as I haven't bought HR yet, but as a general point of note I pretty much always judge games on merit without giving bonus points for how old they are, much to the chagrin of some on these forums (a reasonably high proportion of games I play are 'old'). For example System Shock 2 is an example of a game that I have been (moderately) critical of, having played it about 5 years after it was released and comparing it against more modern titles (including Deus Ex, ironically).

Oddly enough, playing through the original Deus now and, believe me, the AI is very poor. Hell's Kitchen is a pretty dull area as well, lifeless compared to the Detroit area of DXHR.

It is a great game, one of the best, but not without its flaws.

No - the first one was better... more challenging, more options, better music.

However - HR is absoloute class as well - both fall into my Top 6 games; DE at #2 and HR at #6

(single player games that is)

Can someone link me a guide or files that I should use to replay Deus ex 1.

I have the game installed and dvd on my desk.

but I think I will try some gfx mods.

what is best?

There wasn't just two Deus Ex's though was there, I remember playing one in the middle years ago on the original microsoft xbox, I played the original on PC and then a 2nd game on the first xbox and I liked both of them, and now I'm playing the new one on the PC but I'm not enjoying the new one so far, It's kinda boring me for some reason, I dont know why, it just doesn't seem as fun.

I forget the full name of the 2nd Deux Ex game that came out on xbox, do you guys remember years ago?

EDIT: After searching online I think these are the three titles:
  • Deus Ex: The Conspiracy
  • Deus Ex: Invisible War
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution

And like I said above, I completed the first one on PC and loved it, thought it was amazing, I completed the 2nd one on Xbox and loved that too, but this 3rd one I'm probably 8 hours in and I'm forcing myself to give it a good go but it's just not grabbing me. Also one of the things I found really fun in the origonal two was the augmentations but they've changed them in this so that its just a crappy menu. I'm sure I remember in last one I played, the 2nd game, and maybe even the first game, you'd pick up an item and see it in your hand and it would look amazing and you'd install it on your body and it would grab you more in the story, it's hard for me to explain, but it just felt better, in this 3rd game, I just get xp, press o, click on something to upgrade, thats it, in a menu, just feels crap and boring. Also the story hasnt grabbed me at all...I play mafia 2 or deadspace and it feels like it drags me into the story and I feel a part of it and it feels so great but this game I'm just not feeling it.

The second Game (Invisible war) was complete and utter **** in terms of:

a. Gameplay - was very slow and sluggish even with mouse sensitivity set to full and the augments did little or nothing to improve matters and the AI was a joke and hardly posed a challenge even on the higher difficulties.

b. Storyline - Super powerful information controlling AI merges with nano-aug and suddenly cannot control the information flow and crashes plunging the world into collapse... then to repair instead of just modifying the original nano augs tech they have to grow a completely new one how efficiant! x 2

c. Length not even 1/8th the length of the original all side q's included.

It should never have been released and never deserved to be counted as part of the Deus Ex series IMHO. HR on the otherhand was more true to the original The story was fantastic the gameplay just as good the only thing that this lacked over the original is the length I mean it was by far longer than DE: IW but still only about 1/3 the length of the original.

I played Deus Ex HR the other week, finished it. Played Deus Ex 1 for the first time a few days ago. Finished it. Whilst I think Deus Ex 1 is more enjoyable, both are amazing games!

HR got as close to the original as any modern game will - gaming has changed considerbly since the first game was released.

I personally liked HR, not more or less than the original.

As for the bosses, I played hacking/stealth and had no trouble with them. Would have been nice to have an alternative route though.

This is how i feel, i am in china for the second time currently which i believe is nearing the end of the game and i have loved almost every moment of it (bosses)

The original game was revolutionary, HR is a great game, but it is only evolution not revolution, some things have been removed, others streamlined all in all i think its a great package, i would have liked a bit more choice and as people have said i think the aug's system isn't quite as awesome as it was in the first one..

In this one you get some hacking, get the ability to pick things up and jump high and then you are set do what you want with the rest of your skills as they dont really matter. In the original every aug you found was a major decision on how to modify your character which was a better way to have it.

Overall i think there is not enough in it that i would ever play the original again, the graphics are just too bad and the shortcomings of HR are nowhere near as game breaking as some people have said

Looking forward to completing the game so i can start it again and kill some people :D

Deus Ex 1 is a better game, because it has better design decisions.

For example, you do not have to eat snickers in DX1 to be able to knock someone out, like you need in HR.

Or you have location damage in DX 1, where you can get your legs/arms/head damaged and it has an effect on gameplay. No autoheal either, unless you get it augmented.

Or you can pick up just about every object in the game, not just ones that are yellow highlighted.

Or you have awesome boss fights that have many ways of getting solved and are MEANINGFUL, because you know those characters and interact with them whole game. In HR bosses are just worthless filler with no substance.

Or you have better endings that are not about pressing different button in one room.

Or you have awesome skill system where you can upgrade your skills, your augments, your weapons..you have hacking, multitools, lockpicks...in HR all you get is hacking minigame, OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

...HR is a great game overall, good atmosphere, solid dialogues, good core gameplay, but there are too many stupid design elements about it so that it cannot match up to DX1.
This has nothing to do with time or nostalgia or whatever, just with simple design.

Still, it is one of the better games this year. I would give HR 8.5/10, DX1 - 10/10.

Biomod is a very good mod if you want to play through Deus Ex now, however if you find that it changes too much then Shifter might be better(Biomod includes shifter)

Biomod makes great changes to the Aug system imo, most augs only use energy when you are actually using them as opposed to when you turn them on, for example you can keep silent running on all of the time and it doesn't use energy, but others still use energy when turned on, such as the spy drone/cloak etc. And bio suits only use energy when they are actually being used also(same with ballistic armour)

It also adds a grapple so you can climb better and adds some different unique weapons to the game

New Vision with Kentie's renderer is great for visuals as well.
