Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (Square Enix Reveal new Deus Ex)

Even though I think a brand new engine would be better as this one is not very good, I mean it cannot even do reflections. lol

I was wondering about that but I reckon it's an inside joke. The first DX:HR engine couldn't do reflections and I'd be amazed if this new one couldn't either but it's more likely they included smashed mirrors again as a easter egg of sorts. Although I must admit that I didn't actually pay much attention to the sink area in the bathrooms to even see if there were mirrors or not. :D

Yay with the latest patch the developer put in the ability to change both X and Y mouse sensitivity - I had a feeling it was slightly off (though only very slightly - compared to some games where it can be off by 25% and unfixable :|) and was having an impact on my experience now I can both confirm it was and fix it :)

If I use vsync at 60fps/60hz, even though I get completely smooth frame rate, there is a random stutter when I pan the camera. Doesn't happen as much in borderless windowed mode, but it's still there :( more detectable if I use my xbox controller, as the panning is smoother and the stutter more noticeable. Usually borderless fixes these issues for me :(

Completed my pacifist and foxiest of hounds run.

Turns out the non-lethal way to deal with the boss is to EMP him and use a Q takedown. I was expecting something a bit deeper, to be honest. Like, if you read a particular email beforehand or something, you get an option to talk him down. Nope, he's basically just like a regular enemy with a bigger health bar.

Also, turns out the option of whether to save the bomb maker or break into the Versalife vault has absolutely zero effect in the end. Either way, you travel to Garm. Either way, you save the convention guests and the rich bloke from the poison, and Viktor's bombs don't go off. Some cutscenes play out slightly differently, but that's it.

So far really not enjoying this - everything feels so fragmented and random in terms of the mechanics and atleast in the initial bit of the game you seem to be pushed down a fairly narrow path unlike what drew me to the original game where you could put far more of your own mark on your character's abilities.

So far feel like I'm playing it because its "deus ex" and not because its a game I'd have picked up and played in its own right.

A lot of engines can't do proper reflections :/

Apparently it's quite hard to code and standards seem to have dropped a lot since the days of Unreal 1, which had brilliant reflection effects (and texturing and fog I might add) :P

Spoilerish question re the Palisade bank -

I am trying to gain access to the vaults underneath the Palisade bank. I have explored every inch of the building including the car park and sub vault level, however I haven't been able to find the key cards required to access actual vaults (Picus etc). Are they given as part of a quest later in game? I'm only doing side quests atm, so haven't progressed in the main story at all yet.

I only found two. One as part of a quest and one purely at random somehow, which I've forgotten.

yeah they're found in various locations around Prague. I just stumbled across mine breaking into apartments

Unreal Tournament (can't remember about the engine in 1) also did volumetric lighting and some other effects (if you went into the advanced options thingy) that are only just being used in games today.

High quality reflections are quite hard to do due to all the angles, etc. but basic realtime reflections aren't that hard just performance intensive as you either have to render the scene (or a simplified version of it) enough times to capture into a 6 sided cube map or to build a render portal (though for a simple mirror you could get away with just rendering a camera as if from the middle of the mirror looking out).

Quake 3 did fairly good portal mirrors aslong as you only had 1 in a scene at a time.

RE: Palisade Bank

Depends which vaults you're talking about.

The Executive safes you find codes all over the place or you can just hack them when you get there

The Corporate safes that you access via the air vent you can find all 3 of them somewhere in Prague. Don't remember when/where I found them though. Had the Tarkus one first, then Picus, then Tai Yong. Picus was just full of software disappointingly. Tarkus had some nice gear in it though

The Versalife corporate safe seems to be gated by a quest late into the game where you get a choice of 2 quests so you could miss it entirely

Well I was super excited to play this game being a big fan of all the DX games, but upon breaking into my first apartment I was sorely disappointed. It was home to a crazy cat person with random cat things everywhere, including a litter box with fresh poop, yet an actual cat was nowhere to be seen! I realised straight away that the little touches of immesion I was hoping to find would not be present. Even Deus ex 1 had cats.

Please tell me this game has cats.

Lol that disappointed me as well. I have yet to see any animals in game yet :(.
