Di2 - Thoughts?

Will post some next few days. Still mainly packaged up as we are in process of moving house. Need to get some helicopter tape as well to protect some of the bits (believe it or not going to use it in summer to commute in)

As promised..stored in one my parents spare rooms as our place is manic moving house at moment. The wheels are heavy as, will prob buy another set at some point, perhaps some 35mm naked carbon ones. I used to have C24s and C50s with my old Di2 bike, bit annoyed I sold them now!

I went for 53/39 configuration and 12-25 on the cassette (one I am used to, though on commuter it's 52/39).

I do love the new crankset design...not as sexy as Dura Ace 9000 though

The below is the battery in the septets (it gets charged via the junction box under the stem. Per the schema above, this has the 3 connection version)

Looks stunning - any issues you can see/marks/bumps/scraps etc?

Think my cash is heading towards a R782 Di2 now - either that or the gran fondo, but i do like the matt black carbon look.

Any reason you didn't go with the fondo? Also what size are you if you don't mind me asking.

Nothing I can see. Some grease marks but easily come off. I will check it properly on Saturday when I have more time. Was very well packed.

I prefer subtle look, not a fan anymore of colourful frames which is why I went for this frame. I went for 52.5cm (I am 5ft 10).

Frame is beautiful and will look great with some naked carbon wheels.

Like I said paid £1,499 for it (looks like it is £1650 odd now for the spec). They did the Fondo with Di2 for £1,399 last month which was a stupid bargain.

Good thing is Ribble's frames are all Di2 internal both wiring and battery.

You know, despite my stance on Ribble cycles, the prices are so attractive, and I know (and love) the gran fondo frame.

Hum.

After seeing the most ridiculous inflation in road bike prices since 2008, don't personally mind likes of Ribble. I have a 2007 Bianchi carbon bike (in bits at the moment) that was £1,100, now the equivalent is £2,000. Components have not followed the same inflation trajectory for sure.

Also Ribble R872 frame is apparently same as the De Rosa R838, where a Ultra Di2 equipped one is over £3k.

Set it up on Friday, fitted to the same measurements as my commuter.

Sadly both the wheels were out of true and Ribble are going to fix. They aren't great wheels anyway (the cheapest) and will be getting replaced, but good to have anyway as a spare.

see this worries me - spending that amount of money on a bike and cheap wheels or not, they should be checked. I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a R782 with di2 etc.

I had this problem with planet x/on-one over various things I bought from them, quality control leaves a lot to be desired!

They seem to just bolt things on and have a that'll do attitude.

If I'm setting up a Felt F2 say id have to assemble it using carbon paste on bars and seatpost, torque wrench on cranks/stem/bars etc, check all the limit screws(di2 still needs a proper set up same as mechanical, same for the trim adjustment on the front mech) true the wheels.if needed but that's more on own brand wheels rather than aftermarket ones. At the end I'd at least charge the battery and maybe even upgrade firmware before it goes out.

The main reason I won't buy Ribble again is their customer service.

To be honest I think you just have to kind of accept that with the way their prices are, margins must be pretty tight and so time spent on each item must be kept at a minimum.

Personally wouldn't really trust someone else to build my bike for me, much rather do it myself, then I know exactly how everything is.

Their customer service is fine, they were excellent in dealing with this. They have sent a wheel box that arrived this morning for them to sort out. These things happen. The Di2 was setup perfectly, worked 100% out of the box so to speak and everything looked well greased and torqued correctly.

The wheels that come with them are crap anyway, they will be used for winter commuting on another bike as they are heavy as.

I'm going to get a set of Fulcrum Zeroes soon instead, or maybe C24s (had a set before, the WH-7900 ones, miss them, amazing hubs!)

I usually build my own but this price and being able to use my £1k cyclescheme voucher was too much to resist
