Diablo clone

I've lost many hours to the Diablo series.. I own Titan Quest and Torchlight and I have played a few other d.clones. TQ is definately the best one. Brilliant game.

Titan Quest + IT. I've spent hours on that. I would recommend trying to find a friend to play it with though as multiplayer can be epic - although a few arguments have broken out over loot!

You could check out DarkSpore as well, looks excellent. Not tried it myself, so can't really comment, but very tempted to go and buy it.

I couldn't find the Darkspore thread! maybe to many got burnt by spore.
I tried the beta and found it very pretty but i do not think it's worth the asking price.

Yeah its nothing special. Played 1 of the Beta's a bit cos it looked interesting but really it feels incredibly tedious. PvP is a waste of time because stats make more difference than skill.
The PvE i did keep finding myself opening the game up again to play it, I just never quite figured out why. Levels are all 10 minutes long (ish, under 10 minutes is the gold medal, the way the medals work isn't great though).
While there is a total of 100 heroes available, i've no idea if they all have unique skills and at any rate, you can only take 3 with you at a time (and it seems you can only create 3 squads which makes it even more tedious). The way the skills work is each hero has 2 and a 3rd that all squad members can use so you can create some interesting synergies between them, unfortunately what that actually means is you pick 2 heroes to try and make 1 of them get the best synergies and generally only use that hero.
Balance is laughable as all skills increase in damage based on your primary attribute and its really not uncommon to have 3 items that do exactly the same things but each has a different attribute, it also turns out that a class that does really well on solo you'll go onto a 4man party and find out they're weak as hell.

Overall the game just feels really slow paced when the style makes it feel like it should be faster...

Another vote for TQ here - brilliant game! Simple and yet immersive imo!

Make sure you get the IT add-on though - totally reforms the original game and adds another scenario to the end! (Hades is one confusing place! :p)

Just make sure you dont (ab)use the vault though - as soon as you download a set of items "just to see what they are like" - it completely undermines the game!

90% of the fun is the HUGE amount of drops there are!! :D

Just ordered 2 copies of the original game + expansion pack. Gonna play through it with my cous online so I've got a few questions.

How easy is it to setup? Also if I install things like TQVault as long as we both have the same mods installed does that mean there should be no problems?

How does the progression work if say my cousin puts a few more hours into it than I do, will I catch up with him or will we have to play together the whole time and progress at the same rate?

Super easy to set up, only thing to make sure you both have installed is the FanPatch. This is quite important as it fixes a whole load of stuff that the devs didn't get a chance to sort out before Iron Lore went under.

Having TQVault installed on one person's PC won't affect if they can play with someone without it as it's an out-of-game thing that's primarily for storage (but can be used for duplication and "acquisition" of items).

As for progression, going at the same rate would be better if only because he'd have to come back and redo stuff that you would need to do. It's not vital that you're both the same level however as with two people you'll be slaughtering whatever comes your way with ease anyway.

Cheers for the response pal, I may just have to make a online save file and an offline one then, sounds like it's probably the best solution to it all. Really looking forward to it turning up now, damned bank holidays!

Titan Quest is by far the deepest Diablo style game, Torchlight is much more mindless fun. Sacred 2 is bloody brilliant but strays a long way from the mindless clicky.

Titan querst + IT for the replayability (I'm playing it atm :)

Sacred 2 and Ice and Blood expansion - for the sheer vastness of the world (plus the amount of secrets etc to find ) - get the community patch as well adds in even more stuff - down side is the bugginess (especially on Win 7 x64)

and Torchlight fo that pick up and play instant action

BTW when you're bored with vanilla IT try the overlord mod - relevelling of the classes - ,more monsters and extra boss monsters and loot (and these get added slowly so epic is not exactly the same monsters as the lowest level

I like Sacred 2 the most ... but the no respecs at all part completely ruins the game for me.

I just started a new game, got to level 45, and realized I had picked one wrong skill upgrade and couldnt change it without starting all over again.

I HATE no respecs!

Torchlight was amazing! It's not exactly deep, but you can pick it up and play from the get go, and it's addictive as all he'll :p

One of the few games I've completed multiple times :)
