People above have mentioned that missing something in hellgate etc. I wonder if it's because its all been done before and we constantly want something addictive and unique but due to so many good games our expectations maybe are too high these days and cannot be met due to being similar to something already released?

RTS games are like that C&C was brilliant when it came out but its been done and most current RTS games have similar aspects altho withfancy graphics. I suppose the same goes for Crysis. At the end of the day its just another FPS shooter but with the latest graphics. At the end of the day its how addictive the gameplay is thats important

That probably sounds about right TBH, wasnt sure what to expect with HG:L when it was finally released, after it being put back over a year. I reckon that i am as pleased as i was ever gonna be with it, and it does have some of that addictive hack n slash essence that was so much fun in D2.

I did read something about D3, think if it was going to be made it was to be with the rest of the guys that stayed with Blizzard instead of going to Flagship. Correct me if i am wrong though.

Ack never thought about that. I would have hoped so but.....

Just tried installing it (took about 20 seconds!). It comes up with the familiar message from the past "Searching for the fastest battle.net server". And then failsto find one!! Oh well thats dashed my hopes of reviving playing again online.

Time stands still for no man.......*a tumble weed slowly blows by*

I reckon it'll still work fine as a LAN game using Hamachi... any takers? :)

Edit: Just logged on to battle.net myself, didn't seem to have any issues other than I was the only one there :).

I can gladly correct you for being wrong! A number of months ago former employees that left Blizzard who worked on Diablo II were hired to work on a secret project, it has been rumored to be diablo III for quite some time but news has slowly leaked out. Again, browse the news section on www.diabloii.net for the latest info.
 
Diablo 1 was a classic! I remember the first weekend we got it, playing LAN game round a mate's and having to work that weekend too. I got next to no sleep that weekend, and was falling asleep on my feet at work!

There were some great mods for Diablo too, such as Netherworld and Tolkien mods.

Dunno about mods. but love yuo m8. Anyome who was into the original Diablo is a life long friend to me. :) This was the one game that changed the life for me. Yes im old but i will never forget the feelings i felt about this, I was obsesed by ultima online too. I know that came after Diablo but was all part of the natural prossetion that led to all the current multi player online games

yeah it runs fine.

Diablo 1 SP was better than Diablo 2's I think, the story was so great with a few side quests here and there. Diablo 2 was more set piece but still great, I loved the ending of Diablo 2 when I first completed it. Diablo 2 was probably the better multiplayer game however.

Both are absolutely brilliant and even now haven't been topped in their own genre.
 
yeah I do miss them both a lot. I never played diablo 1 multiplayrer more then round a mates lan. My housemates I got in to diablo 2 several months back and they havent stopped playing it since. As for D3, theres been rumours for years.... I gave up hope. but god it would be good fun :)
I remember actually in D1 I got a unique weapon called Hellslayer, and nothing could stand in my way. Almost everything was a 1 hit kill, was beautiful. Then I got the same weapon with the same name etc in D2, and it was rubbish! :(

So basically from the employees that worked for Blizzard, some went to Flagship, and the others are 'hopefully' working on D3.

Very nice, will be interesting to see what materialises over the the next year or so. Hopefully wont be like Duke Nukem and takes ages for anything to happen.

brings back memories of my firewall sorc, i spent 8 hours a day doin meph runs for occy with all my mf gear

i think im gonna have to reinstall D1 and D2 now, skelemancer ***!
 
D1 was my first ever online game and in my very first session I managed to get PK'd by "Bill Clinton" using some kind of autokill that starts damaging you the instant you went down into the first level. Sadly he gave me a link to the trainer he was using (Raymond's) and off I went down the path of the dirty cheat, level 127 spells, godly * of the whale for all my armour, obsidian rings of the zodiac and so on and so forth. It's a shame really since I think I would have enjoyed the game so much more if I had stayed "legit".

D2 is really so much better in pretty much every way though. Apart from the fact that there are so many people playing who use bots like d2jsp that the trading market is just flooded with top-end gear that no casual play can possibly hope to afford. And the chances of finding something like the complete tal-rasha's set just with your own sorceress are unbelievably low. It's even worse trying to get your own torch/anni without the ability to trade for anything. And when you do trade there is a high chance the item you get will be a dupe and could disappear at any time if you're frequently playing with lots of random people.

Was it Diablo 1 you managed to log onto? If so i'll give it another try. It might have just been down at the time.

Re above, Dont worry after installing latest patch it connects to battlenet.

I have started playing Diablo 1 again. I cant believe the amount of nostagia this is bringing back.

I got my sorcerer (Deks) to level 7 and took on the butcher...Ouch!. He kicked my ass and I couldnt get my equipment back. I will have another bash later today :)

Just tried installing Diablo on my PC and it's not working either, getting the same vague Windows error message that oxygene was getting. Not working in compatibility mode neither...damn this thread for sparking up an old addiction and then not allowing me to play!!!
 
what operating system are you using Faffer? I installed on XP and it literally took 20 secs to install. This has got to be the gane that changed my life. I played with Clanuk if anyone has ever heard of them.

I now am obsessed to go all the way thro to the end of hell :) LOL its so frustrating to start again as a sorcerer and not have town portal, teleport, mana shiels and stone golem :) LOL i'm picking things up all the time that I forgot about :)

I loved Diablo II, used to hook it up on my mates LAN, for hours start on a friday night finish on a sunday afternoon, them were the days lol. (played Q3A and C&C inbetween)

Im off to dig out my Diablo disc's see you in about a month :)
 
Running Windows XP with SP2. Installs fine, but I get the error when starting the game. Tried patching to 1.09 but it made no difference.

Yep, I can understand the sorcerer frustrations with all the immunes. I ended up changing to a Rogue after a while. Nothing resists cold, hard steel :p
 
OK, got it to work on the laptop. Maybe it doesn't like the graphics card in the desktop.

Anyway, if anyone's up for a session on Battlenet, let me know!
