Anyone got any information on the Maxtor DiamondMax 22's? They seem good value for the 500Gb 32Mb cache version.

No information on the Seagate/Maxtor sites and I can't find any reviews or performance stats on the usual hardware sites.

I've had 4 Maxtor Diamondmax drives over the last 8 years and all are still going strong. So IME they are good. Not the fastest, but they haven't broken.

Seagate have bought out Maxtor now btw, so the new Diamondmaxes may be made with Seagate technology.

That's mainly what I was wondering.

I've got a few "proper" Maxtor drives around, never had any major problems with them.

Funny old world - most of the HD manufacturers have now being bought up my Seagate. Seagate bought Conner, Maxtor bought Quantum, Seagate then bought Maxtor.

Well ..

I ended up with one. Went to my local parts place and they had them on special offer. Was originally going to get the Samsung but they were out of stock.

Appears to my eyes that it's a relabelled Seagate 7200.11 with less warranty. Part number is the same but starts STM rather that ST. Ran a couple of benchmarks I had handy and it's pretty quick. Makes my existing T7K500 and MaxLine III drives look slow. 110MB/sec vs 70MB/sec for the Hitachi and 60MB/sec for the Maxtor, and better seek times.
