I seemed to think they did which may also be related to OPs problem.
They do, but usually leads to them being more accurate.

I meant more that he may be signed in all the times the search string worked but that this time he wasn't hence the odd result.
But he's said he's signed in so unrelated.
Ive had a few dodgy search strings in the past where completely unrelated guff is shown as results.
I had the same problem. I was looking for pictures of novelty waffles. Ideally blue coloured.
The results I got were shocking.

If it's anything like Microsoft does, they hire people to go over search strings and bring up relevant links and adverts for that string. Also search results change over time as big sites become more popular.
