Did I just see a new episode of Sharpe advertised on ITV?

Nope the gun had no bullet in it, it was literally just a test to see if he would pull the trigger :)

I was there in Jaipur when they were filming

I handled all the film negative for processing

Think they were shooting for around 4 months, really sucked as every day we'd get a big box from India with loads of cans of film negative that had to be sorted :(

Work for a post production company called Todd AO, we do loads of film processing for ITV dramas, BBC dramas, Sky Promos and stuff for other digital channels. Latest stuff we've done is Spooks, Sea of Souls, Conviction, Taggart, Hustle, Waking the Dead, Dalziel and Pascoe, Hex and loads more.

*spoilers*It certainly had the bullet - it was a manual loading gun - shot and powder seperate he'd have noticed the shot missing, even a blind man would have;)
The powder was a deliberately bad mix, one that would barely go pop (not enough saltpeter), iirc Sharpe himself commented on it to Harper, and you could see he knew something was up when he was about to fire and smelled the powder on his hand.
As you say it was a test of loyalty
*spoilers*

Woops, sorry. Didn't have my thinking hat on and just assumed as it was free to air anyways it wouldn't be a problem. :(
