Did you add a floppy drive to your last custom build?

Floppys are awful!

There is no need for them today what-so-ever now thanks to the excellent n-lite. (The ONLY reason you NEEDED one before was with regards to SCSI/SATA drivers during XP setup as floppy was the only source it would except:rolleyes:)

BIOS flashing via floppy is crazy!! CD/DVD and USB and even windows flash are far quicker and reliable than floppy. SAMHACK ;)

nope - dont see the point

If I need one (which is very rare nowadays) I have one on the end of an IDE cable which I hook in temporarily:)

Yep, I've got a C2D rig complete with floppy (been in the case for years).
However, I'm not sure whether it is actually plugged in or not - luckily my new mobo lets me update BIOS from a USB key and I haven't needed to install any SATA drivers as I went with Vista.

I do simply because of when I reinstall windows XP the only way I can load up RAID drivers is through it. It doesn't accept drivers from any other drive/type of drive.

Taking it out is a distinct possibility I suppose, it'd be nice to have one less thing in my case I suppose..

Someone mentioned Nlite, I see little point as the Sata drivers are update often so just make new floppy each format of XP.

Also Floppy + a pure Dos boot up disk is still the best and REC'd way to flash bios for mobo and GPU by the hardcore modders, the files are written to system Memory anyhow before flashing.

Windows flashing is still dodgy esp Asus one, too many thing can go wrong as of running apps, though I have done it many times.

As I use modded bioses I use the old way and use a long string so it totally erases eprom unlike normal method which keeps 1 sector (backup).

I just recently migrated my components from one PC case the dreaded Thermaltake Xaser III which I must say is the most ridiculous case/thing man has ever created with its razor sharp edges and stupid screws - despite it being so big finds it difficult to have the likes of an X1950 graphics card in it! Getting back on floppy I didn't include it in my new build never used it and don't think I ever will!

I dont have one in my pc, but i do have one in the cupboard so should the need arise i only need to plug the ribbin cable into the mobo and plonk it on the top of my case temporarily

I've not used floppy drives in my last two builds and as such, have built up quite a nice collection of drives in my spares cupboard.

Now, when I finally get around to actually needing a floppy drive for something in VMWare, I can't find one that works

I have one installed but never use it becuase you never know.
My thinking exactly. I never know when someone will ask for some help and I'll need a floppy disk drive. Mine is in my case but not hooked up to the power. It used to be but I didn't bother hooking it back up when I plugged my new PSU in.

As for nLite, I don't need to integrate my SATA drivers but for those that do, I find that such is the time gap between installs that I might as well make a new disc for the new updates for XP so it doesn't really matter if the SATA drivers get changed all the time.

Went for a builtin memory card reader - though I rarely use that tbh.

I do have a USB flopply lying around though I can't remember the last time I actually used it.
