Diesel Tuning

I'd take a remap over a tuning box any day. As said above a tuning box ups the fuel rail pressure putting stress one expensive bits,

You'll get more out of a remap aswell!

i argree with that, if you have a dual mass flywheel your clutch should be ok for a a lot more miles, pls dont use a tuining box they may **** up your sensors in the long run.

Because Vauxhall are renown for making their own alternators aren't they? I mean it can't possibly be a Bosch, Nippon Denso or Delco item that's failed.
When the alternator in my Rover went that was apparantly LOL ROVER time as well :).

At least my Rover didn't break down and need me to literally kick it to get it started again ;). In fact in the 4 years we have had it it didn't break down once :).

Punched actually :) 11yrs of Short Journeys and 80,000 miles isn't bad for a fuel pump to be honest. The car has never actually broken down, just needed a gentle bit of persuasion to get going once or twice :)

Have you owned the car 11 years??? How do you know it's been used for just short journeys??

And - if you have to ring up breakdown assistance then it is broken down ;).

Maybe, or maybe it was used for a less frequent number of long journeys? Or maybe a combination of short and long? Maybe you can't tell ;)

Also how does the length of the journey impact on the fuel pump?

Come on, don't be silly. A 1.4 Fiesta is not a motorway cruiser. I can tell by the general wear and tear of the car that it has been doing short journeys for a long while. I have a MOTs which show the car has only been doing 4000 miles a year for the last few years. The last owner was female and used it to go shopping and to ferry her dog around which took me a good 6 hours of cleaning to remove all traces of :(

Lots of short journeys - lots of starts - Every time you turn the ignition, listen out for a little whirr, that is the fuel pump priming. I'm hopefully assuming correctly that lots of this will wear it out.

I stand corrected then ;)

I personally would make the assumption that mileage kills fuel pumps more frequently than short journeys.. But let's not argue ey :D

It's a fiat engine which produces 170bhp in an Alfa, and 180bhp in a Saab.

So 200bhp isn't such a mad state of tune. I don't know how the sport button would work though.

Edit:
Ah, this is a follow up.

depends on how good the tuning box is made and the car
i know someone who has covered over 90k in his rover 75 diesel(bmw engine) with a box fitted and its never given him any problems
