Diet confusion

Should I drop the Sultana Bran altogether? Following the three boxes I already have :o

Having read them although they have a very good vitamin content they are also very, very high in starch.

Today's food:

Sultana Bran with SS milk
Apple
Banana
150g pasta in tomato sauce with mozzarella
400g chicken
I'll be having braising steak stew for tea with small amount of potatoes, loads of onions and spring onions and carrots

Most cereal isn't great really, unless you count plain oats. Something to consider: of those who eat at breakfast time, those who eat at least 30g of protein will see better weight loss than those who just eat cereal.

As said, try to get more protein into your breakfast. Cereal is insanely simple and it can be hard to get in to the mindset of preparing breakfast every day instead of just pouring stuff into a bowl and munching, but it'll be better for you.

It takes me 3 minutes to stick 4 eggs in the microwave and a slice of bread in the toaster and then the same again to eat it if I need to get moving, it's more than worth those 10ish minutes to get a good breakfast in.

Or if you're ridiculously rushed in the morning, have a protein shake with milk and oats, and then some omega-3 fish oils (not in the shake ).

tried that once, never again! Took me an age to get the fishy coating off my shaker :o

Microwave scrambled eggs. Blergh :(

More protein? I can't put chicken in my bowl with my bran :D

Today's diet:

Breakfast: 2x boiled eggs (got used to this pretty quickly TBF)
Snack: Lean ham with some cottage cheese
Lunch: chilli con carne
Evening meal: Lamb shoulder with roast veg

Improvement?

Looks pretty much perfect now depending on portion size. If I had to give criticism I'd say it could perhaps do with more fats. Animal and nut fats would be the best bet. So fatty cuts of meat (bacon and sausages!), handful of nuts here and there, peanut butter etc.

Lamb is very fatty so I think the fat intake is likely to be good, as well as the egg yolks too. Of course you're eating lots of veggies to I take it? :)

Loads of onions and tomatoes in the chilli, spring onions in the cottage cheese and parsnips and carrots and peas with the lamb shoulder.

Water based porridge, blueberries and a spoon of yoghurt for brekky is full of win. I'm on the weight loss game at the moment as well. Currently 97KGs (15 stone ish) looking to get down to 90-92kgs (14 stone) before november 10th. No drinking, gym circuits 5 times a week, touch rugby on Sundays and 20 mins each way of cycling to and from work a day and I'm looking at dropping around 1.5kgs a week with a good diet.

Eating is so key in losing weight and I LOVE my food.

There does seem to be quite a bit of red meat in your diet Gilly, not a fan of fish or chicken?

Water based porridge... are you avoiding milk because of intolerance or to avoid the fat/calories in milk? You'll find that consuming more protein with your first meal will help with fat loss.

Also, there is nothing what-so-ever wrong with red meat. Eating fish is great for it's added benefits though.

That's only todays. Think we'll have hunters chicken tomorrow night, or perhaps fish tomorrow night and fresh chicken for lunch.

Fish is fantastic I must admit. Get bored of chicken though.

In the volumes you must go through it I'm not surprised! I'm finding that literally spicing it up with chilli or some Cajun style spice (minus the salt) removes some of the repeated blandness but there is only so much you can do...

No but there are some theory's around large amounts of red meat increasing the risk of health complications later in life. Regarding the water based porridge, it's just trying something different. I have milk in my coffee and tea (about 4 cups a day, two of each) but for some reason I quite like the water based porridge, sometimes with a drizzle of honey if I have a bit of a sweet tooth morning but mostly the fruit covers that.
