Hi guys,

I am looking at purchasing the Titan Viper around May/June time, but am wondering if there would be any noticable difference between the 6GB of Corsair XMS3 12800-C9 (that comes with the system), or the XMS3 12800-C7, which is available from OcUK but costs around £40 more?

I've read on the internet that there isn't much difference between C7 and C9, but just wanted to see what you guys think!

Thanks in advance

Go for the lowest latency you can afford. If you can't afford C7 don't worry about it and get C8 or C9. Simple as.

Yeah, lower is definitely better but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it :) I built a machine recently using an i5 750 and 6GB of CAS9 1600mhz stuff and it's fast and snappy and generally awesome.

i just recived 6gb of the corsair C7 1600mhz today :) 182.99 is expensive though, was only worth it as p&p was free :/ ....

Raw memory bandwidth is good when all is going well and the CPU's able to successfully guestimate what to preload into its cache. Latency on the other hand kicks into play the moment the cpu guesses wrong, and it needs to transfer a small block of data from ram to get going again.

So it really depends how predictable the memory use is in any given program. The more unpredictable the more latency/timings will improve the performance of the computer. Sometimes you'll find that C7 @ 1333 would out perform C9 @ 1600, however C8@1600 would be lower latency and higher bandwidth because latency is relative to the clock speed, as the latency/timings are based on the memory bus frequency, not the cpu's internal clocks.

Dont get caught up with it really, on the whole, both intel, and AMD systems are quite good at precaching data, so overall the difference is quite small. My personal preferences is for low latency, but if you cant afford it, dont lose any sleep over it.
