Difference in cooling paste?

Hiya guys

I've ordered an E8400, and a tuniq tower.
The tower comes with its own cooling paste stuff.

Is this good enough? Or shall I get some of that arctic silver?

Cheers
DB

P.s. I'll be overclocking to 4ghz hopefully...

The tuniq paste is actually quite good according to people who have tested it. You will get better results with correct application. There is very little difference between any of the pastes currently on the market - application is key!

The tuniq paste supplied with my tower was TX-1 i believe. Don't know if this is better or worse. But i used Artic Silver as its recommended so highly on this forum, and i'd rather follow the advise of consumers, than reviewers.

What do you mean the line method?

Has anyone got any tips on applying the paste?

Basically its best to apply a thin even layer on the cpu, if your cpu and hsf are flat you will get good contact the paste is just used to fill any tiny viods that would otherwise be filled with air (trapped air is a bad thing).

The line method is to apply a thin line of paste down the centre of the cpu and then spread evenly with your finger. i think this is the perferred method, but some would agrue that a small rice grain size amount of paste in the centre of the cpu is best then spread evenly. Also use cligfilm over your finger so that you don't contaminate the paste with moisture/oils on your fingers.

Afaik the line method is referring to the instructions recomended by artic silver where a thin line is applied down the middle (in line with the cores) and then the heatsink is put on top which squishes the paste out. This method is good because it's consistent and easy to do but dosent work as well as spreading when both the surfaces are very flat/lapped.

i used the original paste that came with the tuniq tower and thought it was crappy, it was thick and glue like.

I swapped to artic cooler MX2 the other day after cleaning both surfaces (cpu + tuniq) with akasa TIMCleaner.

A thin layer on the cpu and a thin layer on the cooler (as thin as you can get)

my temps went from 73 with the tuniq fan on full to 53/55 with the tuniq fan on low.

cant reccomend this more without buying it for you so ill stop!

just applyed this 2 days ago as well, real impressed with temp drop, full load was 56-60c. now 52-54. should have applyed it ages ago, bought it well before xmas & forgot i had it lol :)

Hang on. Some people are saying the Tuniq stuff is rubbish, others are saying it makes no difference.
Then we have a guy who tested everything from Arctic silver to toothpaste, and found no difference!

So many opinions!

I'm thinking, as long as I apply it well, and all holes are covered on the contact patch, it shouldn't make much difference.

So I might stick with the tuniq stuff.
Unless I switch on, and the temps are 50c without overclocking! Then I might think about shelling out that extra £4!
