Difference in running costs?

sorry for the late reply, anyway car was keyed from top to bottom, lightly on the sides and quite badly on the front, hence why it had the front striped down, its not everyones idea of a ideal upgrade but i choose from what ever he gets in, its not like tesco where i can pick, he mainly has contracts with delivery companies so i got more of a choice of vans not cars, the handbrake did put me off a bit but interior can be changed if needs be and a gutless engine could be changed/tweaked if it caused a problem

everyone has an opinion, and they are entitled to it, but as mentioned i hope that peoples comments reflect what they experienced not what they read about

if you guys have "better" cars that dont cost more that £3000 to buy then im all ears :)

I think if I was assessing a car and thinking stuff like 'well I could just change the interior or the engine' i'd probably reassess whether it was worth bothering at all and just waiting for something I actually wanted rather than taking whatever is there just because it's there. It's not like you need a car is it? Your isn't broken?

I'm sorry, I never said it was better than the competition so I have no idea why you are asking me that.

You stated it was garbage, I've been driving 18 years and can state for a fact the my wife's car is not garbage, it's been a great car and she finds it does the job she needs perfectly well.

You're wasting your time asking about this car choice on this forum. All you're going to get is an argument with people who will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience :)

not to sure, i was told the fiesta lx wasnt a really really good car but at the time it was a cheap option

A Ford Fiesta in the grand scheme of cars is definitely not really really good. However in it's catergory of car I'd say it was the best.

This is where the issue with the Meganne is. The Meganne in the grand scheme of things is certainly not a really good car, however, nor is it a good car within it's catergory. There are better cars in that range. The Meganne is near the bottom within that catergory of car. The only thing going for it are the safety features, though there not exactly horrendous in similar cars.

A megane really isn't much of an upgrade, especially not a poverty spec knackered one.

Fundamentally, 3k won't buy you a significant upgrade. The next step up in "normal" car terms would be something like a mk2 focus for 5k. So you either need to find more money or wait until you can afford an actual upgrade.

The megane will probably be more hassle than the fiesta for no real benefit. You have yo ask what it's actually giving you aside from something different and a bigger number on the front

So you're spending at least £900 for a vandalised Megane, but it's ok cause you can simply replace the interior and tune the engine.

Just, keep the Fiesta. I ran a 2003 MkVI Fiesta for years and whilst it wasn't earth-shattering in terms of speed or handling, it was so reliable and so cheap to run. All I ever did to it was change the fluids, filters and tyres and it just kept on plodding away, sailing through MOTs and all the while being perfectly comfortable and adequate for a short commute or a trip to the shops. It didn't eat brakes and it didn't eat clutches, because it was a slow Ford. The Megane might well be equally as fine, but paying >£900 for a CAT D shed with an arguably worse interior and almost certainly worse reliability, makes no sense to me.

Save some money and sell the Fiesta to your Dad or something when you've got £3k in the bank.

£900 for a vandalised that would be fully repaired, serviced and MOTed first, wasnt aware that the meganes had such a bad rep, allllll taken on board and shall avoid
