Different name, different premium

Has anyone had any success haggling on insurance quotes on the phone?
My best quote by quite a distance is swiftcover. However I have had good experience with my current large name provider and want to stay with them. Do I have much chance persuading them to drop their quote by about 12% to match swiftcover?

More food for thought, confused are always more expensive and never give me any decent quotes compared to going on the sites directly :)

Yes, call your insurer, tell them you've had a cheaper quote and they should match it.

It depends which insurer you're with. Last year, Tesco refused to lower my renewal whatsoever as they "Don't do price matching". This year, Virgin stated that they could try and price match, but were only able to drop my renewal by a maximum of 10%, not the 20% they would have had to in order to match my best quote.

Tesco will insure a 355?

I agree that insurance is based on risk but generalisations are not fair. My future brother in law, aged 19, pays £1200 per year for a 1.2 Ibiza. But he drives like a grandma, but he's classed as a boy racer. I know 25% of accidents are caused by sub 25 year olds or whatever the stat is. But the rules should change to experience, not sex and age. By the time he is 24 he might have 6 years no claims - but still pays higher premium than a 35 year old with 6 years no claims. And a female in his position might pay less.

Haha I'm in a bit of a similar position - I pay about £1200 for my Rover 200 insurance as a 19 year old with 1 years NC, and my stepbrother's girlfriend who just passed last week pays £650 for a Fiesta. And she's just gone and crashed it, driving the car home from the bloke she bought it off! :p
