difficulty in installing I5 2500k on Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 Z68 mobo cpu socket

Basically I placed the cpu on socket (fitting the grooves of the cpu to the notches of the cpu socket) It's when i try to push the pin and cover back down..well it seems way to tough and i'm hearing grinding noises..should there be this much pressure from the pin?

Granted i've never actually handled one of these new sockets until now so im not sure if this is natural or not but i wanted to be sure what to do before i attempt to use excessive force... my q6600 on my previous mobo, the push n pin was no where as near as forceful

any advice would be appreciated, ty.

So long as you are confident the CPU is orientated correctly (golden triangle on the corner of the CPU is in the same corner as the etched triangle on the CPU socket) and sitting properly then you will be fine to give the lever as much welly as it needs to lock in place.

From experience these Intel levers require a lot of pressure to get them secured - to the point where the level is bowed in tension when locked down. This is normal and won't damage the CPU or motherboard.

Mine took abit of pushing but I DEFINITELY didn't hear any grinding noises... o.o

You do hear a bit of noise, crunching, grinding call it what you like it is the pins getting pushed down against the gold contacts, so that is normal.

figured as much, used some firm but steady pressure and it went down nicely

Same, was ******** bricks with the noise and lever-flexing. But all was fine.
