I think sid's point is that Infinity Ward aren't going to react to this by going "What have we done?!?!?? GET DEDICATED SERVER SUPPORT NOW!" They're going to go "Let's cease producing games for the PC and work exclusively on console to prevent further loss."

First of all I'm pretty sure it would be Activision's decision wouldn't it?

And second of all I think they're far more likely to take positive action if they see a bunch of people signing petitions and expressing their frustration at the removal of a certain feature by boycotting the game than they will if they see a bunch of online 'tards saying "IW/ACTIVISION/MICROSOFT SUX IMA PIRATE IT NOW LOLOLOL"

I cannot believe how childish you lot are, all this talk about piracy is just dumb. Can't you see that you are helping to kill your beloved platform by saying/doing such things?

You will find that MOST (all?) of us BUY multiplayer games for the MULTIPLAYER aspect
Besides, Codemasters make plenty of money without any real anti-cheat, or anti-piracy measures (they seem to be happy to rely on the good in people)

Assuming IW arent retarded

This seems like a deliberate effort to scuttle the game and leave the pc platform.
Having said that lots of people will buy the game regardless of the intricaces of p2p MP.

Hmmm...

So does that mean the xbox doesnt uses dedicated servers? just p2p rubbish? ive not played cod4 on xbox before so i cant comment, but if they do then surley the xbox lot wont be to pleased either?

They're P2P, but with slow controllers and auto-aim, it's not nearly as noticeable for them as it would be for us.

Is that based on what you think or your first hand experience playing the game on the new server setup?

Why can't you just not buy the game for the first few weeks and see what the thousands of people who WILL buy the game make of it, then make your mind up whether you buy it or not.

From that original story about this it seems they have massive plans for IW.NET, is it not possible to just wait and see what develops/how MW2 plays?

No it isn't.

Boycotting suggests that the fanbase is not satisfied by the quality of the product and that they expect more.

Pirating suggests the fanbase are scum who want something for nothing.

In your opinion of course.

What he actually said was the outcome would be the same but you just had to get "I HATE PIRATES" in didn't you?

People need to get over piracy, some people will never stop piracy, it'll always happen. It's not as bad as you want it to be and I'm surprised you haven't started ramblings about them being "thieves".

That's not a defined figure though is it? NPD data tends to be better, and I'm unable to actually find any more recent data than what I posted

No i agree but its something that gets used as fanboy fodder a lot

His point stands though, if you want to make a point/boycott something, then have the balls to stand by your decision, don't then go and download it because you want to play it.

Can you not see how that is double standards?

They do create an entirely different impression. If everyone says they wont buy it and IW go on a torrent site and see it's only got 500 seeds and 5000 downloads, they'll get an entirely different impression to everyone saying they are boycotting but the torrent having about 20000 seeds and 150000 downloads...

Do you seriously think pc gaming is coming back regardless. By boycotting the game = less revenue = same outcome as piracy

while i agree, pc gaming competively is personally a lot more fun to watch than console gaming and still is the leading competitive community.

do i think competitive console gaming will grow to the size and money that is available in pc gaming? yes i do, but why cut out the pc community :(?

CoD started as a PC game, now its turned in to a console game. the success of it on the PC made CoD what it is today.

how can the most anticipated fps ever, not have a chance to be one of the most popular competitive games ever? i know a lot of people wont be buying it to play in online team wars etc, but those of us who are, now have no idea what game to move in to next. i dont personally want to play cod4 for anouther few years like i did with mohaa, when there is anouther game coming out that has the potential to be awesome in clan wars, but wont be possible because we cant strip the game down to make it more difficult and we cant have our own team servers.

i personally wont pick up the game if things stay as they are, and i wont pirate it either because i agree that the amount cod4 has been pirated on the pc is probably a major factor in why this is happening.

Pre orders send the wrong message to producers imo. If a game is great and incorporates a high standard of production values, the game will then get my money and not until. The money is better earning me interest in my account rather than theirs.

It's a hell of a leap of faith, handing over your hard earned to an industry that is now renouned for releasing unfinished products, then simply moving on to the next money making project, often largley renaiging on their support promisses.

as for piracy, i think it was Valve who suggested that Pirates are on the whole underserved customers, words to that effect anyway. I don't pirate my games, but i am definitely feeling underserved these past few years.
