So, this from August but I just saw this on h3h3....

A video about digital blackface, be warned you might the contents of the video offensive.

Is it OK to use black emojis and gifs?
It's digital blackface, according to writer Victoria Princewill.

See if her arguments change your emoji habits.

Have your say on the BBC News Facebook page.

Warning: This video contains historical footage of blackface minstrel shows which you may find offensive.

I just don't even know anymore.....

in b4 twitch.tv remove the TriHard emote.

Edit: These people are truly a new level of pathetic.

Apparently, most popular reaction gifs are of black people? wonder if she's going to provide a citation for that claim. Nobody in their right mind can make such a claim because if you browse any of popular reaction gif sites it's anything and everything.

What a moron.

Edit2: Thought i'd some research for her.

I was playing L4D2 at the weekend and it randomly gave me the black character, does that mean I'm a racist now?

For some reason I have this scene in my head:

I remember seeing it on the bbc when it came out and there was also a thread on here I think. Literally was slack jawed, to the point of could not comment. I must be over that now but seriously...Clearly I'm just getting old and my old fashioned belief people are people is outdated. I sent someone the Julius/Wolf clip at work the other day indicating that I would sort something out. But I'm not black.....where do I apologise?

I did a search for blackface but nothing came up.

I always thought the ideal behind promoting anti-discrimination was to live in a society where skin colour didn't matter but the left are obsessed with skin colour and identity politics and giving special treatment to particular groups, in this case they're basically flipping discrimination on its head where white people are being oppressed. If you told black people that they couldn't use memes of white people there'd be a massive outcry from the same left. All they are really are doing I think by giving special treatment to minorities is creating division and resentment.

It's stuff like this which devalues the term 'racist' as it is such a broad term nowadays.

Also, Cultural Appropriation may be relevant in America due to forced migration and cultural assimilation, but no one forced non-whites into Europe and so, in effect, every non-European is appropriating our culture by speaking English, wearing European clothes, using cars or electricity.

We need some sort of guide.

I mean...is it cultural appropriation if I eat Indian food?

Only if its made by a non-indian cook.

Whats more worrying is the utter prevalence of emoji of all shapes and sizes, ocuk has the right policy on this one sticking to a small number of easily distinguishable emoji that aren't animated.

It depresses me to see folk these days putting too many emoji into their messages, i mean wtf am i meant to draw from cactus, cactus, smiley face, winking face, cactus, birthday cake other than to assume the person writing it is mentally deranged?
