Hello fellow overclockers!
I'm assuming most people on here use some form of digital distribution platform, as we are all avid PC gamers Steam and Origin will probably be top of our lists. Well I'm due to complete my master's degree soon and my dissertation is on digital ownership, with particular on possession, ownership and business models. I won't bore you with all the details but digital purchasing is becoming popular as is discussion into consumer rights and ownership regarding it.
We all know Steam has flagged up recently as an example where we are now 'subscribing' to a service and thus do not own our games. Regardless of people views towards Valves platform we are entering a digital marketplace that propositions a different rule book to consumers.
Steam is a good example of offering additional value incentives to consumers, the online community, regular promotions, badges and so fourth it demonstrates innovation within their digital distribution business model, maybe the trade-off of ownership is acceptable?
Views and opinions from the community would be useful, and if anyone has ten minutes spare to complete my survey it would be greatly appreciated!
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it here so apologies in advance to moderators and I can take it down if necessary.
