Digitalrev

Digitalrev break the law by not putting on a correct value.
The customer breaks the law by not paying the appropriates taxes due. It is your responsibility to pay appropriate VAT and duty regardless of the value declared on the package by the sender. The declared value is used as guidance by the the relevant authorities, that doesn't overide the actual value and taxes due.

Still, as a consumer you can still pay HMRC the taxes and duty after delivery if you want to remain on the right side of the law.

So as long as you are happy breaking the law and notating the taxes you owe, then digitalrev are fine by most accounts, warranty issues aside. Just don't complaint at the likes of Starbucks or amazon for legally reduce their tax when you are illegally not paying any.

jesus.

Why not have a moan about single mums with no jobs living in a nice council flat curtesy for us paying high TAX to the government for such privaledge...

And that is completely off topic and includes a curse word. Perhaps look in a mirror before proclaiming how terrible this place is.

It's not sensible, food is food. Tax on it is unethical, period. And you'll find tax on healthy fruit products like smoothies which have virtually no processing at all.

And 5% on utilities is still 5% that shouldn't be there, the rate doesn't matter, even 1% is wrong. The assertion that 5% vat on a massive bill of over £1000 in any way encourages people to save electricity is laughable. You are trying to defend the undefendable!

If you think they'd remove tax on all that and you wouldn't end up still paying up through other means, you're going to be solely disappointed.

It's a good thing I don't think that then.

What I do think however, is that taxes that are regressive are a bad thing, and increase the need to hand out benefits because the price of food, fuel, utilities, clothing, appliances and other essentials are being increased to the point where people on low incomes need government assistance to afford them...

The main problem you have is that the entire economy is based on idiocy of the top end wealthy and powerful. If it was done in a sensible, calculated way, you wouldn't see the value of things doubling every ten years. People are so set on making profit they lie, cheat and steal whilst increasing pricing on things that don't warrant it. Add to that the trading in money that doesn't exist and you've got yourself a planetary nightmare caused by the ultra rich few. Until all debt is wiped out and prices are set across the globe, the problem will always exist.

It depresses me intensely watching the world being run by the corrupt, causing untold harm to the people that live on the planet, and the planet itself. They're even crippling the space race (or the space, stalled at the gate, as it is now) which will only result in the entire planet dying off. But hey, as long as the ultra rich stay rich in the 100 years they're alive, eh?

People wonder why some don't want kids. What's the point in bringing people into a doomed world?

But yeah, woo for cheap camera stuff :D

For the love of god someone please lock this thread and delete the Photography sub-forum. It's generally a cesspit with the usual 'characters' being complete arses.

what curse word?

on topic actually as u cant blame people trying to avoid a bit on paying tax seeing as we pay a lot for the privaledge of people getting benefits from it in a bad way/mindset

So how do poeple rate Digital Rev over ******* and others?

******* seem to offer 3 year UK warranty on their lenses i.e. They'll fix it in the UK. However they don't have a massive choice of products.

Not sure why that company is stared out.

money that doesn't exist.

Imo this (creation of money through debt/fractional banking) is one of the biggest cons ever inflicted and causes untold misery in the boom and bust cycles it creates. It also gives central banks (usually private organisations) around the world untold power.

This is the first thing that needs to change. Government should be able to issue money, without having to create debt that is mathematically impossible to be paid back.

Unfortunately people in general are mushrooms.

If what you say begins with a P. Then yes they are very good indeed.

Warranty on lenses is international anyway.

It's starred out because of the completely inconsistent moderation on this forum as I previously stated. One tax dodging company is allowed and one isn't, for no apparent reason.

Not all lenses have an international warranty. I'm not sure how it works for Canon/Sony/Sigma but for Nikon there are lenses with an international warranty and lenses with a local warranty only.

You don't see it in the UK very much but in some US sites like BHphotovideo for Nikon lenses you can buy a grey market lens - these are lenses sourced from HK/China/etc.and do not have a valid US warranty or any international warranty what so ever. In the US, if a US resident buys a US model lens that comes with a US warranty then they get an international warranty as well, if they buy a grey market lens then they have no warranty what so ever.

I don't know enough about digitalrev and the like, but I would be very surprised if they came with an international warranty. I'm pretty sure they either will have manufacturer warranty or have a local warranty, i.e. local to HK. What digitalrev does I believe is let you send the lens to them and they do the repairs either themselves or send it to HK and have it repaired under local warranty. that may or may not be an issue to you, from what I have read Digitalrev are generally fairy good about warranties, in fact you might actually gt a longer warranty with them than you would from Nikon. But you may no have any official manufacturer warranty.

Secondly, some local warranties are longer than the international warranty. E.g., I purchased some gear in Switzerland and got a 3 year Swiss warranty, while at the time Uk and US warranties were 1 year (I think that is still the case). The International warranty on the lens was 1 year.

Anyway,I think all this blows. The lenses should all come with a 5 year international warranty IMO.

There is no VAT on food, only processed items. this is perfectly sensible, buy fresh health ingredients and pay no VAT, buy a microwave pizza and pay tax.

Utilities are charged a reduced 5% VAT since they are essentials. What I believe should happen is there should be a tax free limit that is linked to number of residents in the house with an adjustment for children/old people (and potentially adjusted for weather so cold periods have a higher tax free limit). However, beyond the tax free limit utilities should absolute be taxed - taxation on utilities is an important way to ensure people take care to turn off lights and be sensible with their heating, add insulation, wear warm clothes instead of head for the thermostat.

Clothes are another complex issue. Clothes are fundamental (and legally required in public) but there is no way that luxury branded clothes should be tax free. The only feasible solution would be to have a tax free allowance on certain clothes items e.g. no tax on the first £5 of a T-shirt, £10 of trousers, £1 on underwear, £20 on shoes etc. If you buy the basic necessities then you get no or low charge, if you want a brand name sweater or designer jeans then you get taxed.

Anyway, as I said I don't get if people purposely commit tax fraud but please don't ever complain at others doing so, politicians expenses, or companies like Amazon that legally minimize their tax exposure within the rules of the law.

Politics of envy.

Agreed, one can only think companies have no confidence in their products if they offer such short warranty periods on products costing thousands. They clearly don't care about their customers in any case.
