I got a letter through last week from itv saying i have an audition for xfactor, trouble is i dont think my boss is going to be able to give me the day off because himself and another guy are offsite on that specific day which would only leave 1 person.

I could probably get half the day off but i doubt i will be seen anywhere near the time that the letter says i will be (8am).

I'm frustrated, i really wanted this to happen for me but now i dont think it is, i don't want to tell my boss why i need the day off as i'm worried what he'll think about me (my commitment to the job etc..), i'm just cheesed off and i don't know what to do :(

[/rant]

I'd explain that this is a once in a lifetime chance to entertain people on the television, he should give you the day off surely.

Well then you've learned the important lesson to come and ask us lot first next time something happens in your life :p :D

How do you get an audition?
My mate and me would love to go for a laugh.
Well done on getting it aswell!

You just go to the xfactor website and print off/send off the application form.

I'm pretty supprised no1 else has applied for it, we have thousands of members, chances are someone else here has!

*** How did i do that then.

I blame it on my wounded right paw. Forgive or spank me you decide.
Was a double post by the way.

I would book the half day off then explain where you are going and what you are doing stating that your appointment time is 8am and you are confident of getting back to work in time. ;)
Hopefully your boss will get as hyped as you will about you a work member having a go and getting on the box.
Of course you may even get the oppurtunity to thank him and the company on telly which would go down very well i am sure.
He has 2 options either to get behind you and be happy for you or he can be a ****.
Hopefully he will be happy and then when you don't return on time on said day they will cover for you somehow and let it go.
If he is a miserable git and threatens sackings etc i would still go and just suffer the consequences after. Personal i would pay to Not be on telly but if it's your thing then Go for it with both hands and never look back.
Trust me on this as i am 40 years old. Your only regrets looking back are the opputunitys you miss not the ones you try at and fail.
You MUST take Any chances that come your way. Those that you miss are gone forever.

you could call in sick on the day but then if youre on the tv just hope he isnt watching! although, you could then just say it was done on a weekend etc.

id be with tru on openly advertising his business but that means that if he says no his boss will watch him like a hawk and he wouldnt be able to fall back on the sick excuse. thing is, is it worth lieing about?

good luck though Sp00n. i'll be cheering for you if you get through :D

Offer to wear a company logo on your t-shirt.

Great idea for the first chat with was his name the long camp dude. ( pretends i've never watched it. ;) )

Also don't forget to let us know when you are on it will be hilarious. :p
Of course none of us on here will be critical of your performance whether win or lose. :p

Please tell me you're not one of those people who sound like a strangled cat but are adament they can sing?

Only messin' mate. I wish you the best of luck if you manage to audition :)

Try what the others have suggested - lie.

If i didn't think i could sing, then i wouldnt be getting so worked up about this!

My boss has just emailed me basically saying that i can have the afternoon off, but not the morning as there are only 1 person per site (2 sites) if i have the whole day off.

I'm gonna tell him why i need the day off, that way he knows the full situation.

This isn't about being on tv, it's about trying to get somewhere in the record industry. It's the only place that i can think of that will give me a shot.

Either way i wish you the best of luck. Go for it i say. Lay your cards/heart on the table to your boss.
Honesty is the best policy if only to feel good inside. It may make things worse externally but inside you feel much better.
Worse case scenario is going for it and getting sacked. But then would that be so bad ? Only you can answer that.
Personaly i would have gone for it got sacked and not give to ***** as inside i knew i had to do it.

If you get sacked go for sympathy on TV and get to the finals :D

Put loads of weight on and get through to the final based purely on your comic novelty value.

Oh, and good luck. Just hope your not one of those types that think they have talent when they don't :)
