This is cool, I think it would be nice to build the switch into your desk!

As mentioned you don't really appreciate how very deep these switches are til you see them.
Most switches on cases are micro switches with a plastic button much larger than the actual switch plus a tactile assembly to give a clicky feel.
But a full size switch for installing as it is in a panel cutout has about the same size visible button but needs a lot more room behind it (and remember the length increases again when you have wires connected up behind it).
