Running the pc in my sig- it has been suffering crashes to the desktop (win7 64) with ("The video card has been physically removed from the system, or a driver upgrade for the video card has ocured. ") the last few days when playing the new Mass Effect.

The game had been running okay before then - it came up with the error out of the blue and since then, I cannot run the game for more than 2-3 mins before it occurs again. Sometimes it even does it on the main menu before I've started doing anything. Usually there is some mild visual corruption before the crash.

I've tried a variety of drivers between catalyst 15.10 beta (which seems the most stable) up to the most current 17.3 which doesn't crash to desktop, but outright BSODs (Atikmdag.sys). (Been removing drivers with DDU too, just to see). Cleaned/rebuilt as much of the pc as I can, noticed nothing unusual. Even tried repasting the card in case it was temps (although they seemed okay and still seem to be).

Since the errors occurred in ME, I've been getting them in Battlefront too, which has never happened before. Wasn't sure if it's because they're both frostbite (although I'm not sure what has changed), or whether it's because they're the most graphically demanding games I have. Not seeing any problems in city skylines or SWTOR.

Is my 390 dying? It was a warranty replacement not too long ago (of course it's completely out of warranty now..). I'm not sure what else to try, thanks for any suggestions.

I would advice you backup and a clean windows installation with the latest drivers. Also remove any overclocks.
Had this issue with the GTX1080 last August and only a fresh installation of windows resolved the issue, after 2 years.
 
I get it on occasions in Mass effect too, had it about 5 times in 100 hours of play. Its not just AMD, happens on my Nvidia GPU's also with GPU's at stock. I think its just a random issue manifesting as that issue and not with the card per say, just a message frostbite based games seem to throw up. Pretty much new install of windows also and only latest Nvidia drivers have been installed as a result
 
Ah, thanks for the replies.

Everything is on stock, I just don't really get why it suddenly started happening! Battlefront has been fine for over a year, until I installed ME. Something must have changed...

Maybe I am due an OS reinstallation, installed 10/03/2014... Everything has been running fine until now though, so haven't bothered!

Thanks, it's a shame it's crashing every 2-3 mins in this case. Will have to do something. Might use a system image from before I installed ME and see if reinstalling the game works, before going for a full windows reinstallation.
 
I had this error message occur this weekend while playing BF1. It's never happened before to me.
 
Well it's Battlefront doing it now too. Just weird how that was working fine for a year until I installed ME. ME must have installed/updated something causing my pc to no longer like frostbite *shrugs*
 
Humour me by trying underclocking your card by about 100-200mhz using Wattman and decreasing target temp to say about 50c to keep the card between 55-60c (basically below 60). See if that helps.

I'm having absolutely bizarre behavior from RX cards with games at the moment. The above actually fixes it with two seperate AMD cards. Why - I do not know.
 
I had exactly the same issue today, for the first time ever, while playing Battlefront. There must have been something happen over the weekend? Update of some sort?
 
Are you using MSI Afterburner at all? I've seen a handful of complaints about that breaking things with apps and games since recent Windows 10 updates.
 
Nothing like afterburner installed and all at stock, stubbornly persisting with Win7 too.

I mean, I'm desperate to get rid of my 390, (warranty replacement of 290 had since launch), but waiting to see what happens with Vega if it ever appears - although it seems I could have the same problem with a new card, AMD or Nvidia. Meh. I just want to carry on with ME, it's got me a little hooked!
 
Sounds like a software conflict of sorts. What though i would not have a clue about since ive only seen it once with ME:A and never with any other game so cant exactly figure it out sadly. Might be worth removing all the MS vcredits and only install the ones that come with the game installer. Remember this being a fix for a "The Division" problem.
 
I don't have that game, but have you tried lowering the settings and turning all the visual goodies off? Do you reboot before playing the other games?
 
Tried it at 720p at lowest settings, looked atrocious on a 1440p monitor and didn't help - it crashes on the main menu even...

Will use a system image from before ME, when I know Battlefront was working. If battlefront still doesn't work, I guess it's hardware.
