"So games looking to support DX 10.1 still need a DX 10 rendering path to support today's DX10 cards"
Games which look to support dx10 (which almost all will, no-one wants to make a game that someone with an almost up-to-date gpu can't run) will have a dx 10 rendering path, therefore everyone having a current dx10 card will be able to play games on dx 10, just not 10.1

They got what they paid for (dx10 compatibility) no 8800 or 2900 promises 10.1 compatibility

Considering there isn't that many 'proper' DX10 games out yet and the ones that are coming keep getting delayed for numerous reasons, im in no hurry to replace my 8800GTX. Im sure it will handle Crysis/Bioshock/WiC fine.

, so you guys who have spent £££ on a card to futureproof yourself must be feeling gutted, glad i waited!

think i'll wait for 45nm gpu's with hdmi/displayport, directx 10.1 vdu2.

Half of the people who brough the 8800series got it for its amazing dx9 speed. Plus futureproofing is very hard in todays technology. Also by the time dx10.1 comes out people would have probally moved on from the 8800 series.

clocka, while we are all enjoying games as they are meant to be seen, you will aways be "Waiting on next best thing", the 8800's have had a long reign, nearly 1 year.

I'm just confused as to why people are spouting this "DX10 cards don't work with DX10.1".

They can't use DX10.1 extended features, but then again, a DX8 card couldn't use DX8.1 instructions, DX9 cards can't use DX10 instructions, where is the problem?

My 2900 is a fast card, regardless of if it can't use DX10.1 when it hits.

The problem is that DX10 has been killed off before it's even born, irritating the hell out of everyone who bought 8800/2900s for DX10.

Yeah, its irritated the hell out of me

We are getting a few vanilla DX10 titles, probably a few more before DX10.1 is publically released.

DX8 was killed off almost instantly too, didn't cause the same fuss back then to the early adopters of DX8.

yeah but no other graphics card has had the hate that the 8800 had

how many times did we hear "your wasting your money" when people were buying 8800s ?

Im not feeling gutted, i got my card solely for Dx9, ill buy a Dx10 card when Dx10 appears, not a year before it does. :p

Bet your kicking yourself. :p

I don't know what to do now, should I get a 8800GTS in a couple of weeks like i planned or should I wait for the next gen stuff

Isnt dx7 still being used so how would dx10 be any less usefull by another unsurprising advance in technology.
You wont see any great use of any technology until enough people own it anyway

dx10.1 seems like there isn't much which has changed, wouldn't it be dx10a/b/c/dx11 if it had? Yet these cards cant run it?

Dx10 hasn't been out that long and people have only started getting the hardware for it. If they are going to keep bringing out new versions which wont run on latest hardware at 400quid a go then i may go back to the consol. I wanted a top noch pc. Ive yet to buy and i am hoping to get a G98 but if dx10.2 then comes out and i cant run it im gona be ****** off and may go back to consol. I know youll all say, but games wont be dx10.2 for ages. Point is, if the pc world is really running that fast that new software is coming out faster then the hardware can keep up with it then its a waste of money to keep upgrading.

What differences are there between 10 and 10.1 anyway?

:EDIT: (answered my own question)

The main takeaway is this: DirectX 10.1 is a straightforward incremental update to DX 10 that forces graphics vendors to adhere to a few more set standards with regards to image quality and a couple other under-the-hood graphics features, mainly to give games more control over image quality.

Doesn't look like it really affects the game much other then eye candy.

"by the time supporting hardware and DX10.1 are released to end users somewhere in the first half of 2008, SP1 should be readily available."

This is hinting the G98 wont be out till first half of 2008?
