Point is, if the pc world is really running that fast that new software is coming out faster then the hardware can keep up with it then its a waste of money to keep upgrading.

Hardware is soo far ahead. Name a game which brings a 8800GTX to its knees????? (and not any of those crappy ports, or wannabie dx10 games).

Wont SP1 not be here untill next year? no biggy then coz by the time DX10.1 is in full swing, I'll have a DX10.1 card, surely the 9800GTX will be DX10.1?

Buy for the now

The "now" will soon be the past my friend, 8800's will be phased out in a few months when nvidias new kit comes, If I was in the market now I'd buy an X1950 Pro to tide me over since it's so close to the next next gen :p

So your saying that buying a 640 MB 8800 GTS for 200 is a bad idea?

LOL

i still think 8800 gtx will struggle on games like crysis, it looks like it would cut through bioshock fairly easy though, pity its not an MP game i was interested until i found out its only sp :(

grr @ stupid threads and posts trying to induce panic/hate for brands. again......

you know what the kicker is, the next gen stuff, at the end of the year will support dx10.1, then guess what. a year later MS will be talking about dx10.2 with another new feature that only new cards will support.

dx10 isn't dead, firstly, notice the "dx10" part of DX10.1 , cos the rest of us seem to have noticed that. adding to a feature set doesn't suddenly mean it can't do the current features just because it can't do a couple of new ones.

every single card, EVER bought, in the past and into the future, till the day the universe explodes, will not support the next new thing. its called life, its not changed ever, thats how it goes.

or are you trying to say when you get your nice new card you'll be really really angry when theres some feature missing that a game 1-2 years later won't let you use.

i think this dx10.1 coming out so soon is a gd thing coz it means the 2900 and 8800 will drop more in price so that i can get one

Am at i31 as we speak, i have played the crysis demo this very evening (only dx9 for now) and with just 1 8800 gtx it ran it fine with basically everything on (it looked absolutely awesome, no one could belive it was only dx9 when they said). With 2x gtx's it will run fine i am sure. If it runs sluggish on dx10 with only one gtx... well thats not my problem.

The wait is worth it people, this game is the muts nuts. (assuming the storyline is good!) We will see a lot of use from this engine it think.

I doubt it, they will just dry up, its not unusual for phased out components to be more expensive, Barton 2500m anybody :D .

hope so it looks like a super virson of farcry my poor 1950 pro is going to have a lot of work to do when i get it

Yes, I'd personally rather wait for the new series now only a few months. Also the guy was talking about the GTX fool not the GTS. Buying the GTX now imo is a bad idea the new gen will be here soon, a GTS would be ok I suppose.

For once i totaly agree with you, my gtx will power my current games just as well in a years time. Im not an upgrade addict anyway, ive gone:-

GF3 ti 200
GF4 4200 (the good one)
9800 Pro (flashed to XT obviously)
7800gtx
8800gtx

And

AMD xp1600+
Barton 2500
Barton 2500M
AMD 3700 SD
C2D E6300

I cant stress enough how much i am looking forward to crysis now, the features like putting scopes/lasersight/silencer on ya gun, activating camo, speed, strength etc, all in nice neat radial menus.

But the graphics... Im more excited by this then i have been for a long time (except bewbs ofc) Theyre only allowing like 5 mins per player atm, hopefully the ques will subside more over the next 2 days and i can play it even more!

Edit. Erm yeah bit off topic sorry.

Back onto topic, these cards will still rock for a while to come, all you willbe missing in dx 10.1 is a few new features, which while nice hardly put us into a position we need to cry about.
Most of us who bought 8800 gtx's bought them because we wanted the best, we could afford to spend silly money on gfx cards and truth be told, i would imagine we will when the next gens are released.

Most of the hating is just jealousy unfortunately.
