im afraid so :( after getting used to playing games on max settings and smooth fps, ill get annoyed if i cant play any new games like that. Ill just put it on the shelf and wait until i can upgrade my components to play it how i want. Luckily theres no games out that has made me do that yet :D

Ive not seen a game on high graphics in years :P I cant wait to get my G98. What a step up thats going to be :) Wonder what oblivion will look like mmm.

The step up only works in the same series, like 8800GTS - 8800GTX, so you wont be able to step up to a 9800GTX, and you'll be waiting ages to get your new card too, the step-up program dont seem as good as it really is, seems best just to sell your existing card and go buy it from a shop.

This thread is silly, why people would want to rub peoples noses in this fact is really stupid.
I guess the thread starter and one or two others posting in this thread are just jealous because they can't afford a 8800GTX and get the benefit of higher frame rates and better visual quality now. Sad.

Yep a total joke like it really matters.
The Features of DX10.1 wont be used for a long time & by then most cards will have 10.1 anyway & the first set of DX10.1 cards will be old news.
I would rather have a card that's features are used the most.

I dont think anyone is jealous, I know that I am glad I did not buy an 8800GTX, does that make me jealous too? I think the 8800's wont be much good in DX10, allthough we'll know in 2 weeks, but I think if anyone wants the best DX10 performance they'll get a 9800 which will probs be DX10.1, lots of people have said it, they bought the 8800's for DX9, and not DX10.

but as people said we haven't seen the ati 2000 series and nvidia 8000 series play a real directx 10 game yet. in the next 2 weeks we'll know. and if theses cards do well, the people who are saying theses card won't performance well they gonna hide in a hole :D ...

btw ive installed vista sp1 beta from microsoft. its only hotfixs at the moment.. im not allowed to say to much about it..

you can see it now!

microsoft; we'll anounce dx10 you lot make the cards then when thousands of idiots have brought one we'll anounce dx10.1, which makes all current dx10 cards out of date so you make new ones and make a killin as the same idiots buy those. what do you think about that.

ati; excellent idea

nvidia; splendid

microsoft; meanwhile in 18 months time we'll release vista sp2 with dx10.2 and shaft everyone again.

I was more impressed at the 8800's image quality compared to previous nv models. Not to mention the massive DX9 performance boost that they brought to the table.
As has been said here, yes it might have Dx10 hardware but most people don't care...

Most hardware gets updated * OS features change its nothing todo about shafting.

Plus if your card doesnt use dx10.1 then step it down to dx10. Its not the end of the world. Its not like every game has to played on dx10.1 only.

point is only buy what you need at the time dont buy on the chance it will last because it wont

i knew there was something fishy about the 8800 series when there owners were blaming sloppy ports or poor coding if i spend over £200 it better play every game that is out reasonably well the ati 2900 basicly did the same as nvidia a sort of stop gap generation card with only vapourware and old titles to play on it

will only buy into dx10 when i see a genuine next generation game i really want with great performance not before

No, but when people with older hardware like 6800's start or posts in threads like this stating anyone who's bought an 8800 has wasted their money... well, I'd guess jealousy does play a part.

I've been posting in a similar thread on the Guru3d forum where people have claimed the 8800 to be obsolete! lol

tbh, all im worried about is the performance side of it. does this mean that crysis (for example) will run worse on the cards i got now in dx10, and tons better in dx10.1?

this is stupid, although i should have expected it

ags

Nope it will still be a DX10 game, but the newer Gen cards soon will obv play DX10 games better than current, however Crysis was developed on 8800GTX so it should scale well.

They aint going to cut their own throats and make a game that nobody can run well, its also not a buggy port from Console or DX9.

Even when DX10.1 cards out its unlikely most developers will take advantage of it until long after its out.

rofl, why dont people just stop posting in this thread.

Pointless thread :)

Edit----
omg! even i cant help it!

Im not feeling gutted, i got my card solely for Dx9, ill buy a Dx10 card when Dx10 appears, not a year before it does. :p

Same, i buy a card for dx10/10.1 when it worth it, as i still use xp at moment.

The peeps who bought a 8800 card at launch have had a very rare long good run though, the 7000 series was struggling at high res + all eye candy on in new games and could not do HDR+AA.

No shame in 1 year out a card at the top.
