I can't really comment as I ain't used my 8800 on XP but other people are saying similar things, mainly that Vista is on par in games and beating XP on some.

That's since the 163.16's came out.
 
Where, thats only 2x games, theres more than 2x Dx9 games out, and Quake 4 is only 2fps faster there, i wouldn't call it much faster, and worth rushing out to buy Vista for. :)

Lets say you have a choice, 2900 XT or 640mb GTS, lets say it costs £300 for the XT, and lets say GTS costs £150, now both cards get tested in 20 games, lets say in 15 of those games both cards had exactly the same fps, yet in the other 5 games, the 2900 was about 2-5fps faster than the GTS, so would you buy the £300 2900 then. :p

Wouldn't 5.1 not working be down to Creatives **** poor drivers though?

I've had been using my Audigy 2 ZS in Vista and it's awful. General sounds are rubbish, music is horrible all down to the rubbish driver from Creative.

Do you use your X-Fi in Vista?

On games performance, It's fine. Some games fps is lower than it was in XP but still fast enough and perfectly playable.

even lost planet runs faster on vista. good for u that u don't wanna rush out to buy Vista.. to be honest u can't really say because u haven't got vista...

for me my games run faster on vista..

on some games its more then 5fps like CSS thats a extra 34fps...

Aye it's probably the crappy Creative drivers, I was using my X-Fi in Vista.

Also the volume control thing was all ****** for me, for lack of a better word. It had individual volume control for each speaker, but if I adjusted one another would go quieter or cut out. I gave up in the end.

But couple that with the performance loss I experienced, and the general annoyance of how Vista looks/works (purely my opinion), I just can't use it. Drives me mad.

Why? Surely it'd be a good thing to have for the future, I wouldn't mind a free retail version, though if someone offered me a free copy I'd just say no and do it myself later.

As for me I didn't pay for Vista. :p :o :eek:

i still think you and those other people are still in a tiny minority. don't get me wrong, i like vista, use it full time and my games work fine but i'm still fully aware of the issues a lot of people do have with it. :)

oh ffs. i can see i'm wasting my time here. i'm not disputing your experience. i even said my games work fine in vista - what i'm talking about is the MAJORITY OF OTHER PEOPLE. :D
