The latest ROTTR patch brings DirectX12 support and a dedicated benchmarking feature to the game.

We have just released the fifth PC patch for Rise of the Tomb Raider, build 1.0.638.6. This patch adds support for two major new technology features into the game, and by doing so allows for both great new visuals, as well as improved performance on specific systems. For more information on how DX12 can improve your Rise of the Tomb Raider experience please check out our blog at http://tombraider.tumblr.com/post/140859222830/dev-blog-bringing-directx-12-to-rise-of-the-tomb

This patch will be applied by Steam automatically when you next start the game. If your game does not update, please restart the Steam client. If you are using the game on the Window 10 Store the update will be available in a few days and will automatically download when it becomes available. We will update this thread when the Windows 10 Store version is live.

Added support for DirectX 12

  • Adds NVIDIA VXAO Ambient Occlusion technology. This is the world’s most advanced real-time AO solution, specifically developed for NVIDIA Maxwell hardware. (Steam Only)
  • Added a new benchmark feature to allow easy comparison of performance on different systems, as well as at different graphics settings.
  • Fixed some HBAO+ and other Ambient Occlusion issues.
  • Fixed motion blur problems in Stereoscopic 3D mode.
  • A variety of other smaller optimizations, bug-fixes, and tweaks.

While we expect this patch to be an improvement for everyone, if you do have trouble with this patch and prefer to stay on the old version we made a Beta available on Steam, Build 629.1, that can be used to switch back to the previous version.

waiting for benchs, but i fear if this is the 11ish version of dx12, difference would be minimal if any gain at all, hope am wrong

Highest possibility is that it is the most barebone DX12 patch since this is an NV game now. It would be stupid from them to implement something that runs better on AMD cards.

Seems you are right (for now at least). Runs pretty badly on DX12.

Any game that is merely ported to DX12 is unlikely to see major benefits.

That said, it'll be interesting to see if the trouble areas, which look to be CPU-limited, see a rise in minimum framerates. That's the prime sort of thing that DX12 could theoretically help with.

Runs pretty badly at high resolution in DX12 as I don't think it is using more than one or two cards.

I prefer DX11 for the higher fps.

What FPS do you get with the built-in benchmark with just one card? I lost about 10FPS going from DX11 to DX12 (went from 70FPS to 60FPS).

With 4 cards it is no contest DX11 wins hands down.

Anyone want me to start a proper bench thread for this game tomorrow ?

I thought DX12 was supposed to have better visuals, from the dx11 and dx12 screen I see zero difference.
DX12 is an API, it is not new graphics. There is potential for improvements in graphics with DX12, but it is not some built-in, automatic thing. Its main benefits come from performance optimization potential.

EDIT: Also, people ARE downloading the latest drivers first, right?

Anyone else starting to feel DirectX 12 so far disappointing ? Vs other API the gains was much bigger. If all we going to get is extra 10 fps whats the point?

anyways somewhat better here but still LOL

Having said that, despite the benchmark scoring lower in DX12 mode, actually playing the game the Soviet Installation and Geothermal Valley are so much smoother in DX12.

Now that I think about it I remember Mantle also feeling better with Frame times so might after re-edit my post i'll after give the gameplay a try.
Valley area was much worst for me.

I'd contribute some results, so yes from me. :p
