Dirt 5

Unfortunately this offers nothing not already seen in several other racers from the last 3 to 4 years.

Few months if not sooner this will be "dirt" cheap.

Im actually really enjoying it, feels a bit more like Motorstorm than anything dirt related from before, very arcadey, but also great fun.

I get about 85fps with everything on high detail @ 3440x1440 with a 2080ti @ 3950x.

Downside - its currently a bit buggy for me, sometimes it launches fine no problems, other time it crashes when loading up and ive not been able to fix this, im hoping a patch will sort it out, i have to reboot my pc for it to work.

Thanks for this, will be playing with a 2080ti and 3900x at same res, so gives me an idea of how it will run! Installed and hoping to give it a whirl tonight!

Recorded this yesterday if you want to see it in action.

Looks good to me, love the sound, the way the music seems real like part of the background as you drive round....was going to buy this on pc but think i will get it for the series s when it gets here on wednesday instead :)

Dont mind it being arcadey, infact i enjoy that style of racing sometimes.

Ive had my fill of sim-only games. Got tired of hearing so many "must be sim to be good" type comments.
Im loving arcade style content, playing lots of it, and very much enjoying Dirt 5!!
Looks great, feels superb, its brilliant fun. Id recommend it!

Dislike the commentary.
Dislike the ice levels. I just dont find driving on clean sheets of ultra smooth ice much fun.

I take back what I said. Im really enjoying this new Dirt 5. Arcade... absolutely. Got a £20 (now £25) deal on the full amplified game (not that it makes much difference)

Could you please tell me - what is the difference between the games: DiRT 5 and DiRT Rally 2.0 ?
Dirt Rally 2.0 is a Rally Sim. You can adjust traction control, ABS etc, you'll get time penalties for repairing flat tyres, ditching/hedging it, and its very much like WRC 9 (its closest competitor). In many ways it is pure Rallying bliss from a more realistic standpoint, racing alone against the times of others. But you'll need to master it to avoid frustration. Damage is cumulative and flat tyres can be common if your car is all over the place. Rewards come after practise and mastery, you'll need to get good to experience the best highs of rallying. You need to look after your vehicle in the races and repair them between stages (CPU can suggest and perform repairs). You can turn on plenty of in game settings to help you and take the edge off the difficulty, or alternatively set the game up to perform more realistically with fewer driver aids. There is a tonne of content available in the way of historic vehicles and specific colin Mcrae related cars/tracks to work through plus daily challenges. It is by all accounts a most excellent game! If you get it, my single biggest tip would be to learn to drive at 95% of top speed, and not aim to go flat out when you first get it. Your times will be better if you remember to apply this and focus on mastering keeping your vehicle under control. You'll love country lanes in real life and will forever be wondering what it would be like to rally down them the more you place this.

Dirt 5 is much, much more of a simple arcade racer with plenty of content and a strongrer emphasis on racing against others flat out, and visual eye candy in a similar way Forza horizons was a visual feast. I consider Dirt 5 to be an arcade racer. Its not a sim, and in-game money (which is very easy to earn quickly) is spent buying different vehicles and racing tracks aiming to be first, as well as completing 3 small tasks per race. Each task completed earns you a star of sorts, of a maximum of 3 stars, giving you incentive to go back and replay old races. You can go back and replay levels you have completed to try and 3 star them later in the game. Ive probably only played around 10 hours of dirt 5 and love it. Graphics in dirt 5 are in places stunning, although Ive heard reviewers speak of them in less appreciative terms. I really like the way dirt 5 looks, plays and feels. Its a point and squirt (the gas pedal) arcade racer where, if you stuff up a race, its no biggie, you just go at it again or leave the leven and go back to retry it again later. There are always several races to choose from as your "Next" race in the progression system, as well as every race you have completed being constantly open to do again. There is no strong emphasis on the fastest time in Dirt 5, unlike Dirt 2.0 where achieving the fastest time possible is the sole aim.

Great to have both games, as when youre not in the mood for one, youll likely be in the mood for the other. I have WRC 9 as well, as slightly prefer WRC 9 to both dirt 2.0 and Dirt 5. I prefer WRC 9 because you can drive flat out because the roads are wider. I dont feel Ive ruined a race completely from one small mistake as often. The penalties for leaving the road are bigger in dirt 2.0 than they are in WRC 9.

In summary, Dirt 1 and 2.0 are Rally Sim games. So is WRC 9 which I recommend too.
Dirt 5 feels/plays more like an arcade game.
Dirt 2.0 and Dirt 5 are modern games, as is WRC 9.

Check out Dirt 1 (a sim like Dirt rally 2.0) and Dirt 4 (arcade like dirt 5). I picked up BOTH games 2 days ago in black friday sales for £6ish for the two of them!! They were practically free at that price!

My favourite games of the ones you mentioned plus my favourite WRC 9 game is:
1) WRC 9 (More fun overall and less punishing than Dirt 2.0, without feeling less realistic)
2) Dirt 2.0 (Realistic, but shoots itself in the foot re: run with big penalty times for leaving the road)
3) Dirt 5 (last, because I prefer the intensity of the longer, harder races of the proper rallying sims above in 1st/2nd place). For an easy to pick up arcade game, dirt 5 is fantastic! Im really enjoying it!! And I wouldnt want to be without a few arcade racer games, like dirt 5!

Thank you for giving a clear explanation of the differency.

Where would you rate following games (closer Dirt Rally 2.0 or closer Dirt 5) :

- Project CARS 2 , 3
- GRID
- WRC 7 , 8

Hmm, ok. Well...
PC2 is more like dirt rally 2.0 in that it was a serious attempt at a sim.

PC3 LOOKS more like dirt 5, in that its more arcadey and less sim-like than PC2, but I havent played PC3, I just note that all reviewers echo the sentiment that PC3 surprised everyone by being more arcadey.

WRC 8/9 are similar to Dirt 2.0 in that they are rally sim in game style but with a nice career path to follow. I feel more in control of my car in WRC9 than I do in WRC8 too but both play like a sim.
I havent played GRID. What are you thinking of buying? So many games are on sale right now, its a good time to buy.

That is brilliant, thanks for that. I am looking for an arcade racer and was leaning towards this and you have answered all my questions. This sounds perfect for me, cheers!

Haven't played any racing games in years (since GRID I think! or Need for Speed Most Wanted), just wanted an arcade racer for Christmas, not a sim. This looks like the one.

I bought Dirt 2.0. It is very hard to play especially on a control pad.
I am going to buy WRC 9 also. I hope it is easier to play as you mentioned.

I would need to think longer and harder, but I am sure WRC 9 has less tracks which are as tight as many of dirt 2.0s tracks, there is more room to fly around all over the track in WRC 9, without getting a flat for hitting a rock at the edge of the track in WRC 9.
