Disable UAC - Windows 7

It's there for your own good, disable it if you like. It's never annoyed me much tbh, and it's much improved over the Vista implementation

Okay, thanks. I've only ever had the one problem with it when trying to install the Borderlands DLC, after disabling it for that it installed fine. Just wasn't sure if it was worth turning back on.

I have had it disabled since day 1 of install (late 2009) and I've been hacked and infected 100 million times.

On a more serious note, mine is diabled because I use MPC-HC, playlists/favs do not save if UAC is enabled because the program needs write access to a file in the install directory, UAC stops this. There are some other apps that don't work properly becaus eof it as well but are less important.

Convenience.

I have common sense though to not require UAC.

Also have disabled it since day 1, one of the first things I do on a clean install. As said by mrk, main thing is convenience and no need for it if you have common sense regarding windows/software etc.

I have had no problems with spyware, viruses or any dodgy programs since using windows 7 (which goes way back to the RC version) *touch wood*. All you need IMO is comodo firewall (best firewall there is and it is free :D) and your router firewall, eset NOD 32 anti-virus (best AV there is IMO) and peerblock.

I just use the Windows Firewall (alongside router), does a decent job and asks for access permissions for new apps and things :)

Microsoft actually starts making decent headway with windows security and the first thing people do is turn it off :(

I don't benefit from having it on and it is more of a nuisance than anything else because it stops me enjoying my most used app(s). Why would I want it enabled if it's function doesn't apply to me?

I'd never leave it off if I was supporting an average user though.

You may change your mind after looking at these results :p Granted windows isn't listed there, but even the ones that you would think of as being good don't come out looking good here, so imagine what windows would be like :p:

There security isn't really that good (yet) and why use it when you can get much better security from other companies for free or/and for a small amount of money?

And, this;

I don't think I'd benefit at all from installing Comodo or equivalent. The Windows one isn't tested on that report so until there's some conclusive test for Win7 SP1's firewall, I shall stick!

I am a common sense no AV user but I still use UAC as it is 'Zero Penalty'. I sit behind a router only.

AV has an overhead, UAC is a click every now and then. I do not actively use anything that requires constant UAC attention though.

I've never used UAC. I also use my router in bridge mode as router software annoys the hell out of me. I use ESET Smart Security and its firewall is amazing.
