I'm not one for posting my life on here... but why not just this once!

Just now, I have been well and truly shocked by my mother, it actually pains me.

She has been on holiday for the past week, and has just come home.
Over the past week I have starting seeing what I consider to be the most amazing girl I have ever met (which I am not going to go into).

Now I couldnt wait to tell my mother, because I've been happy all week, but I just got it shot down by her straight off. You see, the girl I have started to see is mixed race (I'm white)
Now I never intended to say to my mum "o yes btw she's got brown skin" but for some reason she said to me "is she black?"
I smirk and say "not quite" and suddenly my mum's whole tone of face changed..
Now she is NOT racist.. but I don't know, she's being really funny about this, and it really hurts me :(

not really looking for advice, but have any of you ever encountered this problem, be nice to know I'm not alone here!

I'm sure your mum will be fine mate when she meets her although to just come out and ask if she's black does suggest she's got some issues with race.

But again, once she meets your girl any preconceptions she might have had will probably be forgotten about and things will work out alright. ;)

well she asked me to show her a pic... which I did (no you can't see :p) and well she didn't comment, and basically walked out
The reason she asked me if she was black was because many of my better friends are black.. or so she says

Hmmm you say shes not racist?? but yet makes a funny face when you mention shes mixed race??..hmmm strange one that is....

Anyways who cares what she thinks tbh, if your happy with her then good for you, dont let anyone stand in the way of your happiness.

Has she ever seemed to have a problem with some of your friends being black?
If no, then its quite possible its what fozzybear said, taht she's more worried about what others would think than caring that much herself.
Or maybe its just taht thing that shes fine with you being friends but dating is a diff. issue or something.
Best idea i'd say would be just to talk to her and see what's up.

Show her that :D

And do what you want... one more predictable thing TTIUWP

Mate I will say something to you. Follow your heart and do not let other people infulence you. If you let this girl go because of your mother you will always think "what if" for the rest of your life. Life is full of chances so why not take a chance on this girl

o there is no chance of me letting her go, trust me, no matter what others think.
she came in and apologised this morning, saying she doesn't really have a problem with it, she just never thought I'd be that way inclined, and so it shocked her somewhat!
she's never had problems with my friends, infact they love her, and she has no problem with them at all. ah well, It'll be fine me thinks :)

It could be worse, you could have told her you're gay! :p

james.miller summed it up, it is your life and you will see whoever you want. The girl is amazing so who cares what colour she is.

it's her problem. you don't get a chance for happiness everyday. if she's willing to wreck it with narrowmindedness then, as james.miller so eloquently put it, sod her.
