Disappointing System Performance?

There is a guide, It's in the cpu section on here,

all you need to worry about to start with is vcore (this is the cpu voltage setting) Bus speed (this is the clock speed your chip is running at) and multiplier (this is the multiplier which gives your final cpu clock speed)

As you have 32Gb of ram, I would guess all your ram slots are filled, so you would have an easier life clocking via the multiplier, instead of the bus.

What cooling have you got on your cpu? If stock, I would seriously recommend getting some better cooling first before trying this ;)

Thanks SeraphX, I have this:

I will try your suggestion tonight - got a lot of stuff to go on!

Hi Bacon (great name!),

I had wondered about the resolution of the monitor. I have a standard 23" 1920x1080 in work, I may take it home and run some tests to see if it is the struggle maintain such a high resolution, causing low FPS.

Cheers.

Haha cheers ;)

The good thing with higher res monitors is that you shouldn't have to use things like AA. Which reduces the strain on the GPU. Running Vsync should also help in keeping a steadier fps.

But yeh for a high res monitor Titan or dual GPU setup is really needed unless your happy with med settings.

Note though that if anyone comes in here and says the word "VRAM", ignore them ;) VRAM has been done in so many times on the graphics section its not even funny.

Hitting the Vram limits in BF3 wont be the problem. I run BF3 at max settings with a 690 at 2560 x 1440 and never use over 1800mb.

Agreed, even when people with 3gb cards report VRAM usage above 2gb it's usually cached which offers little to no benefit in that state anyway.

My screens are 1920 x 1080 so I'm not able to test under the same conditions as you but when running a single gpu I get :-

BF3 - Max 60 + fps
Crysis 3 High/V High Mix 50 to 80 fps depending what's on screen

I have to say I don't normally look at fps but since getting this new OC system I have been ... mainly driven by the forum I think lol but if it looks smooth then it is smooth and the fps just becomes a number after that.

Hi all,

Sorry for the delay in responding - family sometimes takes all my time!

For some reason it appears to have settled down. Playing games in 1920*1080 only has a minor improvement in framerates, but BF3 is idling nicely at 45-60 FPS, pretty much the same for all the rest.

I don't know why - some minor tweaks to the BIOS without overclocking and loading the 'optimized defaults' seemed to make all the difference!

Thank you very much for all your help!
