Discarding PS3

I did have a nosey at some vids on YouTube. But I've had it 3 years and I only really use it as a media player. So I'm not too bothered about it.

I've taken the HDD out but didn't want to just bin it, incase there's any personal info on there that could be retrieved.

Get it on ebay I sold mine there last december with yellow light for £90 quid ;)
If you still have the warranty sticker and the original box you get will good returns on it..The 60gb models that are ps2 compatable increase your price as well..

I sold mine without the harddrive as it was a 320gb that I transfered to a new unit..

I fixed my 60gig PS3 2 or 3 weeks ago following a tutorial on youtube. I have a newer slim model, so the 60gig, even though now fixed, isn't used anyway. But it was fun as a little project.

And yeh, someone is always willing to buy a broken PS3.

Not wanting to thread hijack, but don't suppose anyone has any links for these fixing vids?

PS3 died last week and most of the vids I saw involved taking a hairdryer to it... :|

As far as I am aware the main cause for YLOD is the breaking of poor solder joins on the mainboard.

The general idea is that if the joins are reheated to a certain temperature they should fuse together again.

I doubt a hairdryer is hot enough, I've only seen vids of people using heat guns or in some cases sticking the mainboard in a very hot oven for a length of time.

That's the first part, the links to the other 2 are there as well. If I can follow it and get my ps3 working, anyone can lol

Just don't apply the thermal paste when he says, wait until you put the front and back plates back on, as there is still space to put the thermal compund back on.

Apparently some people have got it to work again using a hairdryer blowing into the back vents. I gave it a go as I had nothing to lose, but it didn't work for me.

Thanks :) I'll give that a go!
