Discarding PS3

I did that heat-gun thing, following that same video.

Its useless. Will the PS3 work after? Yes, sure, but after 2 weeks, it will go again. I did it again, and it didn't last more than 1 week and a half. After doing it like 3 times, it never worked again. It can be because my thermal paste wasn't too good. Some people said that with Arctic Silver thermal paste, they got another 7-8 months out of the PS3.

When it did work, it sounded as if my room was a NASA space station. My PS3 was soooo loud.

If I had to give my 2 cents about the idea, I'd say that if you are not willing to spend 1c on the PS3, give it a go, but if you can get the money to replace it, it is SO much better. You will run into problems if the warranty sticker is removed, like I had. I knew a guy working there who helped me though :D

I think the idea is to be able to get your PS3 back on so that you can do backups, deactivate your account, etc. Or I should say, at least that's I did it for - I didn't fancy having to do lego star wars, etc with my kids again lol

Fair enough. I back up my games frequently :P
Well the success rate for fixing it using the method in the video seems pretty good, it's just how long it lasts that is the problem lol

true

I usually back up my ps3 every couple of months, but as luck would have it, I hadn't done a back up since the start of the year. It's always the way lol
