Disgusting people

One thing I have noticed on my travels is that the people in NI and indeed the rest of Ireland are probably some of the most racist in the world. It more than likely stems from the 'small town' attitude and fear of change amongst older folk out in the sticks.

It is more evident among the older generations but it can seep down into the younger ones.

This i agree with, i think it is a fear of change

I was just called a Jew and told to go back to Auschwitz in the street by 3 lovely pass-bys. It makes me absolutely sick, not by the fact they are being rude and offensive to me in broad daylight but, they are condoning genocide and disgracing the memories of the people killed in the Holocaust. I feel terrible ignoring this and walking on but what can one do. They see other people doing this (which in their eyes must legitimise it) and imitate it because they are idiots.

Sorry, I know this is nothing new, but I just needed to get this off my chest.

Why did they call you a jew? Are you a jew?

How did the 'conversation' start? Were they prompted to talk to you?

My mum is a teacher in a primary school and one of the kids said "I like chinks", which he most probably learned from his parents. Obvious that it will take generations for the people of NI to become more tolerant to outside cultures and races- that they haven't ever experienced first hand. In which they probably see as a threat or don't quite know how to handle it.

Despite the old ways, I think that the new generation of people who have grown up outside the troubles, especially those who are educated, are like a whole new breed. Racism and bigotry is a lot less prevalent amongst this generation. The only places where sectarianism, bigotry and racism is blatently visible nowadays is normally in the housing estates and amongst the lesser educated.

I hope the trend of positive change continues and extends to the lower classes of our society.

I wish I could have been there, thats the sort of people I always wanna fight as soon as the first sip of stella passes my lips.

And scuzi, it aint the case, these highly educated sheltered people are usually part of some upper middle class ****** family who's house "head" read the daily mail and wants to send all immigrants back (even the useful ones).

There are plenty of narrow minded people here, probably the ones who don't actually contribute anything to the country. I've lost count of the amount of stories where Chinese families have been forced out of their homes in Belfast. It's sick and serves no purpose. Whenever I encountered trouble in the streets growing up I was nearly always greeted with, 'Who do you support, Celtic or Rangers?' And each time I replied with 'neither, the Scottish league is *****'

Well the 'upper' middle classes are another story as well, especially the ones in cahoots with certain organisations who will be frequenting our streets in a fortnight or so.

What I meant is that the current generation of of kids in school, university students etc. seem to be a hell of a lot more open minded than previous generations.

Don't you find it slightly awkward carrying a keyboard to the pub?

Yarmulke.

I think this is absolutely sickening. My great grandfather died in Auschwitz :(

....goddamn it, I'm going to get banned if I say the punchline to that one.

*bites tongue* (or should that be thumbs?)

Jews are hilarious. I only get to see that part of my family once every few years but its non-stop pee-taking when I do :)

Can you look like a jew?
I can't, but a whole load of folk around here can. Large Jewish community in Gateshead and they all dress the same - the males all wear black suits, from the little lads all the way up to the grandads (and about half of the folk I see around here also have the long sideburns (Hassidic?)), the woman all wear long black skirts with pastel coloured cardigans :D

It's true. I should open a cardigan and black suit shop.

That does seem to be the case although I'm concerned that, now the sectarian barriers are falling, racism might well rear it's ugly head.

Those icy conditions hey ?

Well anyway that was a bizzare thing to call someone of a dusky complexion.

I'd have thought something along the lines of "filthy muslim" would be the mindless insult du jour.

Don't worry about it, they were obviously rather stupid people.

Scuzi when you make comments like your last one, it always makes me think you have a real hatred for protestants. There's nothing wrong with some of the parades, but i will agree that there should only be two main ones; one of the 12th and the other on the 13th.

It will, some of the dumb assess will need something else to hate now.
