oh I do like to be beside the seaside
Had major "fun" last night, our dishwasher caught fire

Was watching TV and heard a crack coming from the kitchen (thought it was a cat on the side), went into the kitchen and saw flames coming out of the dishwasher.
Being the "sensible" bloke I am, I turned it off at the plug and was about to throw water on it, when my (very sensible) wife told me to shut the door and get out of the house.
Call the fire brigade out, they arrived in less than 10mins, went in all masked up and put the fire out.

Once they'd done that they were really good, they put the dishwasher in the back garden, started to mop up the floor and put a big fan in the house to help to clear the smell.

Talking to them it seems that dishwashers are the appliance that catches fire the easiest and not to leave them on at night or when you go out (both of which we did).

Spent most of today doing some basic cleaning up (so we can have clean mugs/glasses/plates), the smoke got everywhere in all the cupboards and draws.

Some pics.

Some mess that has made! It could have been much worse if you were out at the time. .Bad timing with christmas up.

I was told never to have white goods on at night with the exception of fridge and freezer. Too risky otherwise.

lol reminds me of the Michael Mcintyre sketch.

Glad everyone was ok. We keep a small fire extinguisher in the kitchen but doubt it would to much to stop a fire that had already caught.

Damn, what (brand?) dishwasher was it, reminds me to buy a couple of smoke detectors for home, we have none and ALWAYS leave things like the washing machine and dishwasher on overnight as electricity is cheaper then...
