Disk Boot Failure, insert system disk(power button)

When i switch the computer on via the power button on the front of the pc case i get the following message:

" Disk Boot Failure, insert system disc "

all cables are snug and secure however:

"If" I switch the pc on via the case power button but ever so gently the pc boots up perfect every time, but if i press the power button on at normal human every day strengh i get the error message.

so umm what do you think this could be?

Strange error to what sounds like a power switch problem. I cant really see what difference pressing the power switch slowly would make? Once the circuit is made on the mobo jumpers your system enters POST. Pressing the switch slowly shouldnt be curing that error.

However, in your case it does. Have tried directly booting your computer by creating a circuit on the mobo power pins with the tip of an electronic screwdriver. (if you feeling brave, ive done it before loads of times, but, its your hardware - you could try another switch!)

I've seen this error a number of times and it normally signals a corrupt hard drive or a corrupt OS. I think it could also be caused by having the boot configured incorrectly in the BIOS, you might want to check that

can't see how the powere button affects it though. maybe a short circuit in it somewhere

after further testing the power button pressing didnt work.
however i did read somewhere that re-installing video drivers could work and it "appears" to have so far but so who knows.
the only things i have done differently in the last week are install a new screen on my pc and i remember only "half" defragging my hard drive and quitting because i had to much stuff to do on the pc lol.

if i choose repair from the xp disc will this repair any corrup boot files if there are any ?

could do, in fact I think that is one of the things it was designed to do. There is a description of it at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058/

I normally just reinstall windows but that is because I only ever really seen it on Windows 98 computers and I'm usually upgrading them anyway. If it's not a dead drive then reinstalling is another option. Just dont forget to get any important data off first

did u find out your problem m8 did re-installing video drivers work for you, i have a similar problem i think, before my problem got real bad i could sometimes boot if i pressed power button on quickly also, but now it wont boot with slave connected, read my thread please and see if it sounds similar to me HERE thx
