Hi all,

my eldest turns 6 in october and shes always been a fan of gaming but never had her own game (shes had eyepet but thats not a level based game). she sits watching and makes me read out ni no kuni to her as i play it and shes always playing flash games on the laptop and games on the ipad.

ive looked around and the reviews seem good but im not too sure it will be easy enough for her to play around on.

has anyone picked this up yet or had a play on it?

it may wait for santa but the same will still apply with regards age.

I'd get Skylanders Swap Force when it's out later this year. You could always start off collecting Skylanders now with one of the older games.

My 8 and 5 year old both play it with very little help from me or my girlfriend.

Not sure how well your 6 year old will get on with it but i'm 35 and love it :D Buy it for yourself and then let her try it out.

My GF traded in a bunch of games on saturday and bought this with some power Disks a couple of characters and the Cars pack. Only watched/played the Pirates game for the moment but its like Ratchet and Clank game, heard its about 5-7 hours depending on collectables. Some of the directions aren't always clear but at most of these points there is either a ghost that shows you or a small video showing you what to do. Its not a cheap game but i would expect 15-20 hours of story mode game play from the starter pack, but with toy box mode included its as much as you want from it.

i should have added she is obsessed with disney films, i would be getting the toy story pack (if its out yet) as she still loves it and there is always the chance they will bring out some princess games for it.

ill have a look in Game later today and see what her reaction is to it.

also part of me is looking at the game as i like the look of the build your own world and the potential is has... i dont think it will have the quantity or varity of LBP games but it still looks good fun.

We bought it on release for the Wii U. My son and daughter both have August birthdays so they bought it with their remaining birthday money. It's had a lot of play from them. My daughter, who is 8, also bought the additional Violet character from The Incredibles and she happily plays the Story Modes on her own. My son, who is 3, is quite happy to watch her play, but can also play with her on The Incredibles in co-op mode. He does play on his own (usually on the Gamepad), but he's only old enough to understand the mechanics - just not the missions.

I've been very impressed with it and have found myself sinking 3 or 4 hours in it so far without even trying. We've not even looked at the Toy Box mode yet.

It's expensive though, I feel. £25 for the Sidekick pack at Asda is the cheapest I've seen and £12 per character is just too much. I'm not even looking at the Power Discs.

is it wrong for a 28 year old to want this game? ;)

no because im 28, having kids is just a way to justify getting myself it :D

had a look around and £52 for the starter pack in asda seems reasonable, individual characters seem expensive but when you get different levels with some it seems far more for your money.

ill hold off picking it up incase any offers come up before hand but due to the cost my wife is pushing for an xmas present instead of birthday but ill keep trying to change her mind ;)

We got the Starter Pack from Toys R Us for £50. Is it more now then?

Got the son Dash today, though he contributed a fiver to it. (Having said previously about the cost!)

One of my biggest regrets of recent times is buying my 6yr old boy Skylanders. It's kiddie cocaine. He's pretty much blown all his piggy bank savings on the stuff. (which essentially is my money) Begs to be taken to the store in search for one of the rare ones. $600 later, the wife and I swore to never make the same mistake again.

I have two boys 6 & 8, both have had a PS3 and 360 since they were born. (or near enough) since their old man already had them. They've been playing games since they could. Even completing them as early as two yrs old. At 4 one of my boys was playing SF4 online and even holding his own.

The 8yr old plays mainly minecraft these days or age of empires, and the 6yr old is still young enough to enjoy Skylanders. I'd say she's old enough. Probably been old enough for a couple of yrs. But do expect it to be the most expensive game you'll ever buy.

Oh and before anyone goes lecturing me about kids playing too many games, rest assured, this is inbetween going out on their bikes, skateboards, swimming in the pool, & playing basketball. Plus their mother restricts the time allowed.

doesn't the starter pack come with 3 characters to start with?

Yes but each character is for each playset, so Jack Sparrow is for the pirates playset and im sure only other Pirates characters can be used with him in that playset. In the toybox mode you can use a mixture of characters.

oh sorry, i misunderstood, cheers for clearing that up.

Its probably one of the biggest problems in that you have to pay another £12-15 on another character to play co-op for each playset, but there is a 3 character pack with an extra for each standard playset.
