Looking at the CPU support list the motherboard does not support that CPU.

I think the 9xxx range require a higher end motherboard.

So running the bios as default, not changing anything. So we got it going and have normal function with computer (not recognizing GPU but that's probably another problem) if we turn it off we can't get it to boot up fully without resetting bios.

The problem is the lack of CPU support, you might need to change the motherboard or CPU.

Also once you got it operational run CPU-Z and see if the CPU is runnig a the correct speed as someone had a similar issue the other day with this CPU.

It is quite a cheap mobo, have you got any recommendation for mobos that'll run that cpu and allow us to overclock it. Not looking to push it to the max but more so just to get good performance, it's a gaming build.

While on the topic I'd like to learn a bit more about how to select these things. So what are the key things I'm looking for when matching a cpu to mobo and why am are those things important to look at?

Those CPU's are quite powerful being as they're overclocked at stock, 4.4ghz is a very high clock for stock so they will draw more volts meaning a motherboard with decent VRM cooling will be required to make sure it doesn't throttle. Along with that you need to make sure the CPU is supported, and with the cheaper boards, the CPU won't be due to it's power. I'd look at the ASUS sabertooth off the top of my head.

So me a friend recently built a pc and we are running into some trouble. When we start it up it works grand, we config the bios, it restarts and then no longer picks up the monitor. The only way to fix it is to reset the bios by taking out the battery on mobo. I'd really appreciate some help, thank you.

The mobo and cpu we have are https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-466-AS

can confirm this board doesn't support the 9xxx series

Would advise a Gigabyte 990 FXA or a asus m5a99x board. Personally i prefer asus for their bios and driver support but I've been running a gigabyte board for the past year and i'm relatively happy even if windows 8.1 broke my onboard sound card and it took a lot of comms between support and me explaining this to them before they removed the faulty driver and told me to try a new one which was the windows 8 driver that didn't work......

I fixed the problem myself in the end :) Install 8 driver with all the bits reboot install just the 8.1 driver without the extras which weren't packaged properly in teh install and didn't install which was the problem. and boom it works. took far too many comms back and forth for my liking but apart from that the board itself has been a gem :)
