Display driver reset problem

Hi, I have a PC with top notch components and I get constant display driver reset's.

The screen goes black breifly and then a baloon appears in corner informing me that the display driver crashed. This happens with both ATI and Nvidia (Changing GFX card was obvious fix, but it didnt help at all!).

Happens when playing games but now I have put the nvidia card in, it happens when using Firefox! It doesnt even have to be using 100% GPU power for it to happen, even 10% is enough to send it haywire.

List of attempted fixes:
Changed all sorts of voltages in bios
Changed graphics card
Changed memory
Changed hard drive (used to have a hard drive in it, switched to SSD)
Tried all different drivers etc.

PC Specs:
4GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 PC3 12800 - Model Number: CMD4GX3M2B1600C8
Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Previously ATI 4850 and then 5850 with same issues)
Antec 1200 with plenty of fans going
Corsair TX 650W PSU
128GB Force 3 SSD - latest firmware installed
Intel Core I5 750
Gigabyte P55-US3L Motherboard

I am running 100% stock! I suspect my motherboard / cpu is knackered? What do you guys think? Its been like this since it was built.

Its called a TDR (timeout driver recovery) and is a clash between a new windows 7 function and driver software. Happens on both AMD and Nvidia cards, yet Nvidia are suffering far more with it at the moment.

Which drivers are you using? Trust me a message and I'll send you a link to some TDR specific beta's directly from nvidia (290.66) and see if those sort you out as they have more TDR fixes than any currently released driver.
 
Hi, I am running 295.51 beta (due to windows media centre bug!) and also my brothers socket 775 rig suffers from this MUCH less with my card in it, only really happening on his rig due to overclocking.

Mate, I had the exact same problem and changed everything (mobo/ram/psu) all to no avail. I emailed Gigabyte about the problem and they sent me a bios firmware update which as far as I know and read from other forums upped the voltage. This to date has totally cured the problem.

It was the most frustrating fault ever. Even web browsing would come back with the black screen then the balloon "The display driver has stopped responding and has recovered" It was impossible to play games as you just get into it and then that error again.

I hope you can get it sorted but in my case the bios flash sorted the problem.
 
I had this problem but it was related to my Firefox using some setting, some accelerator thing, can't remember the name but it was cured by turning that off

You have mail. As for the edit, it wouldn't be sadly as they are requestable drivers only for TDR problem users.

I think this could be the soloution, I will try and get in touch with Gigabyte. My power supply is highly rated in reviews and even on these forums!

and even with the beta driver that the guy emailed me above, it still happens:

I dont think the graphics card is at fault, I only bought it last week, and the Ati 5850 it replaced did it too.
 
awwwww not good bud :( I felt sure this would solve your problem. I am out of ideas except for what others have posted.

I know how frustrating this is, so do hope you get it sorted.

Don't use firefox. Its widely known that firefox is a TDR inducing program
 
My motherboard only uses 1 4 pin power connector at the top, most higher end boards use two of them. My theory is that if I upgrade to a higher end P55 board, the stability problems MIGHT disappear due to the extra power plugs going into the board.

Also, I always thought Nvidia was the card to buy for stability, due to my old 8600 being rock solid back in the day. Now I just think that they about even and any crashes are likely due to some other non graphics card related problem (or some over-clocking related problem). Since then I bought ATI for better bang for buck and awesome Linux drivers (which I use occasionally alongside Windows), said caper in this thread is only reason for me going back to Nvidia.

The motherboard and processor is the only thing I haven't really changed, and I am thinking about going for the Asus P7P55D-E (Deluxe perhaps?), any opinions on this board?
Would like to try something other than Gigabyte.

I have a ticket with Gigabyte asking for a experimental beta BIOS, but I have no idea if they will give me one.

I get the problems with my Sapphire 6870. But I was using 11.6 driver or around then and been perfect. Then bought serious sam 3 and went you gotta upgrade!.....12.1 and problem comes back.
 
I followed a 4ghz overclocking guide on youtube for a board that's similar to mine, and stability has improved vastly! Weird :S Havnt had a reset since I pushed my chip upto 4ghz. The guy does increase voltages here and there etc though.

 
Is this the same as vpu recovery? Im getting something where teh screen gets stuck or crashes and the vpu recovery happens. Seems to have happened more when I had vcl player running but could be coincedence.

very weird....Not being that knowlegable, maybe the extra volts going into the cpu are stabalising the pci-e socket? I am sure some tech guru would have a scientific explanation but at least whilst it is stabalised, go with it.

where is Duff man when you need him :D ?
