DisplayPort 1.2a Specification Change Request for Industry Standard Variable Refresh Rate

On topic:

If there isn't any extra money to be made by including freesync as a feature, what motivation would the manufacturer have to implement it? I think they'd have to charge some extra on top for it to be worthwhile, and that's only if there's a demand for it. It won't be free to test and support it.

They would have to move forward eventually, iirc from some of the gsync reviews they pretty much said current monitors are still using the same tech/scaler/whatever implemented on vga crt some 20 years ago. Both nvidia and amd appear to be trying to force a move into new tech :)

Yeah the current arms race is great for moving things forward. Bring on the higher res, and bring back the interest and excitement in the desktop!

So going by most if not all standard implementations, we'll be seeing it some time next year if we're lucky. If it gets accepted.

W00t. Meanwhile I can buy a G-Sync monitor today. You catch my drift :D

This is the key

im glad AMD are pushing for this to be an open standard and props for nvidia for kicking the whole thing off and allowing us to experience it right now
