Hello, what's the best way to dispose of a sofa, without paying 70 quid to hire a van. I also think the tip here does not allow vans anyway.

Thanks

Doa search for local furniture charity places.
When I needed to get rid of mine Kellee found a place locally that came and took it away and then sold it on.

Are you buying a new one to replace it? I believe some companies offer a service to remove your old one when they deliver a new one. (I *think* it was sofas but it may have been something else)

3 am > a couple of mates > nearest skip :p

Any furniture recycling places or charities in your area, they will usually pick it up for free if it is in good nick?

charity or advert in local paper

a few quids worth of advertising it as free to whoever picks it up would do the job

leave it at the kurbside and be entertained by local youths putting wheels on it and flying down the local hill

If the charity's don't work, pair of scissors and a hammer, chop it up into 3 pieces, back of car > tip..

When I moved house last year I had fun smashing a few bits of furniture up, so it would fit in the car.

Isn't there a department at the council which is supposed to pick rubbish up ?
That's if it is rubbish, shame to waste it. I would put an ad in the local paper (or local forum) saying it's free for anyone who wants to pick it up.

When we got rid of our old sofa and chairs (well beyond charity shop stage!), I just took an axe to them. Axe (+ saw if necessary) should see it in small pieces. Then you can take it to the dump in bits.

I'd rather have to pay £50 a month extra rent for furnished, than £600 to move, because there's no way I'm lugging my stuff down them stairs again ;)

Leave it in your back yard, the local chavs will have it away in no time! Works a treat too, I did it with my old knackered TV and it only took about 5 hours. :)

Get it on there. Someone buying a new home with no money may want it for the time being. Be generous to others. Someone will want it for free.

Thats what I do with a lot of stuff. Makes me feel good helping others out.

So does ours, but they tell you it will be sometime within the next 2 weeks. :o

Dont know about you, but I dont want a Sofa lying on my front Drive for 2 weeks, some Chav will end up setting it on fire or knicking it and putting it someone stupid.
