Diving

7.15pm for the 3m men's preliminaries with Jack Laugher (gold medal in synchro) and Freddie Woodward. 29 divers x 6 dives = 174 dives. Should take a while...

Laugher's just qualified for the final, only 2 points ahead of 13th and a mile behind 11th. Needs to up his game massively tonight.

The Chinese diver will need to smack his head on the board and knock himself out not to win gold tonight.

Laugher still 2nd after 5 rounds. If he gets his 6th dive he'll be guaranteed a medal then it's up to the other two to mess up.

Edit: YES! What colour medal though? At least a silver :)

Very well done to Jackie boy after just scraping in to that final. I'm rooting for the Chinese guy in the 10m. Who's Tom Daley? :D

This is Chen's first olympics and I don't recall him faltering during the previous events this year. My money is on him for gold. Qiu should get silver and I'd love Ivan Garcia of Mexico to get the bronze but he's a bit off this year. So it could be Tom's medal.

Such a shame that Daley, after all the hype over the years, hasn't done any better than bronze so far in two olympics. And then a relatively unknown comes along and gets gold and silver.

I've always been bemused at the hype over Daley. He's at best a decent diver. It's just his personality and his lifestyle that brings him to the forefront.
